Tom Krieglstein explains how the consistency principle makes people follow through on commitments to avoid mental conflict. Have each team member write down quarterly goals, actions, metrics, and deadlines at the start, then check in regularly to reinforce the promise and boost completion rates.

The consistency principle state if we commit to doing something earlier in the day or week we're more likely to do that action later when presented with the opportunity to do the action or not. It's because we don't want to have friction in our brain between things we said we were going to do and actually doing them or not doing them. So how can that play out? Maybe at work before the quarter starts you can sit down with each of your team members and ask them to come up with a series of goals, achievements, things they want to accomplish this quarter them, write it down, commit to those goals, those actions, those metrics and then what actions they need to take to achieve those goals, those metrics, those actions and then attach a deadline to each one of those and as the quarter goes on check in. When they said they were going to do the thing that they committed to did they actually get it done according to the consistency principle.
