Tom Krieglstein shares a five-point checklist called CARTS: check the room setup, technology, time and agenda, audience mindset and challenges, and your own physical and mental state before presenting.

I just finished doing a training at Texas State San Marcos on change management, and when I was heading to the program, these are the five things that I checked for ahead of time. First, I want to know what the room setup is going to be like. Number two is I want to know what the tech setup is going to be like. Number three is how long do I have the time commitment? What's happening before me, after me? Number four, what's the group like? How are they where? What is their mentality? What are their problems? What are their challenges? And lastly, number five is myself. Did I get enough sleep? Am I tired? Does my throat hurt? Did I break my leg? I call these the carts. Minding your carts, content, audience, room, tech and self. Hopefully that helps you prepare for your next program or keynote.
