Tom Krieglstein compares two dance floors: one with strangers where nobody moves, another with friends where even the chicken dance gets people on chairs. Familiarity and informal leaders spark participation.
You should actually already intuitively know what makes a good dance. Because imagine you walk onto a dance floor and you look around and no one knows each other. The DJ could put on the hottest song, and chances are very few people would dance. But if you walk onto another dance floor and you look around and you see all your friends, and you're like, hey, hey, hey. DJ could put on the chicken dance song, and you know, one of your friends would find a chair, stand on that chair and be like, I love this song. And you'd be like, come on down. We're going home. Get your life together.
