A short Q&A-style YouTube clip where two speakers (one identified as Tsahi Levent-Levi) discuss whether WebRTC is free. They explain that WebRTC and libraries like libwebrtc are free to obtain and use, but real costs arise from building, hosting, operating, and maintaining a complete system (signaling, TURN, media servers) or from paying a CPaaS provider.
Is WebRTC free or paid?
It is free in the sense of free software. So you don't pay for getting a copy of libwebc, the C package Google provides or you don't pay for using it in the browser either. Problem is at the end of the day you will pay for building a system with it. So you can either go to the web PC samples, build everything, learn everything from scratch. They build from stuff that minimizes the cost you pay to someone but you're paying in your own time or you can go and pay a CPAAS provider who already solves the problem in a scalable way.
And then it's the same for the maintenance part. You can delete from free on your own free time but when the time comes to actually host it on a server somewhere you need to pay for that hosting provider anyway.
Yes, you also need to pay for the hosting provider who provides the signaling server, turn servers, media servers. It gets expensive really quick.
