Short YouTube conversation (two speakers) about whether to use Google’s public STUN server. Speakers say the server appears to be running from a single location/GCP environment, is an unmanaged free service, and therefore is not appropriate to rely on for production; instead use your own TURN server or a paid third-party TURN service (which also provides STUN).
I have a question. Should you use Google Stun server?
Oh that's an old question. I remember it coming up on Twitter I think 2013 and Google's web procedure developer advocate sent up and said yes you can totally use it. And the thing about that Google Stan server is I would say it has been running in a single location at Google in a single GCP environment ever since nobody looked at that server. So do you want to use it? Probably not.
I guess my answer is it's a free service and if you are going to rely on a free service that someone else is hosting for your production application then you're doing it wrong.
Yes.
Especially if you're going to deploy turn servers which give you Stan anyway or you're going to the third party turn service the you pay for make sure you pay for that turn server then that gives you Stan as well. So just don't use Google Stan server.
