Now, one of the biggest problems you likely face as a busy entrepreneur or business owner father is the fact that you're just lacking time to take care of yourself. Now, many of us know that we need to take care of ourselves, but because of the stresses of the business, managing our clients and fulfilling on service and things, taking care of our family, making sure we've got enough money coming in, spending time with our kids and so on, like the stress and chaos of managing all that and then thinking to yourself, well, now I've got to somehow take care of me as well, can sometimes be overwhelming. So it's not that we don't want to do it, it's not that we don't necessarily know that we need to do it, it's more a case of we don't feel like we can because we don't have the time or the capacity to fit it in. Now, of course, this doesn't help when it's compounded by the fact that there is so much conflicting information out there that quite often we want to move forward and take action, and there's this part of us that kind of wants to get started now, But this expert says one thing, this other guru says another thing, and they're all apparently getting awesome results. But it leaves us confused and unsure about what to do because, well, they both seem like authorities. They both seem to know what they're talking about, but yet their ideas are completely opposite. They completely conflict, and therefore I'm now confused and don't know what to do because I don't want to waste time on the wrong decision. Now, when we're stuck in this place where we're like, ah, what do I do? We just need to start simple. We need to focus on this idea of simplify to multiply. And that's why my system, the Metabolic Matrix, is based purely on simplicity. It literally just focuses on the 4 foundational components that we need in order to move forward and get results. So if we want to build a fitter, leaner, stronger body, we just focus on these 4 key things. And then once those are nailed down and we've got our foundation laid, then we can start worrying about all of the fancy gimmicks and fads if we want to add them in or if they're needed. To actually get the result that we want. But most of us, we just got to this point where we're sick of the body that we're in. We're overweight, we're tired, we're worn out, we're achy, and we feel like shit. We want to feel better, but we don't know exactly where to begin. Now, if that's where you're at right now, this is exactly what I recommend you do. So as I mentioned, this is called the Metabolic Matrix, and it's the specific system that I myself use and I use with my clients to ensure that we can consistently get results throughout the year, regardless of what's going on, because the system itself is completely adaptable. So, if I've got periods of stress and strain at work and I need to reduce and cut back, that's fine. We tweak all these components to compensate. And if I've got more time available and so on, then again, they can tweak and expand out in order to accommodate that new free time that I might have, where I can now focus on myself more. So, we've got 4 key components. So this is the metabolic matrix, as I say, and component number 1 is metabolic mindset. Now, essentially what this means is we need to think right so that we can consistently act right. Now, there's a catch and a nuance on this because sometimes we're already thinking right in the respect that, well, I know that eating bad food, junk food, sweets, cakes, snacks, processed junk, I know it's bad for me, but yet I do it anyway because it's more convenient and, you know, I like the taste of it and I feel good when I eat it and so on. So even though sometimes we have a belief or a knowledge of something, we still won't act in alignment with it. So what we're doing as we develop what we call the metabolic mindset is learning how to act in alignment with the belief that we have. Actually, I know that's not good for me, so I'm not going to do that thing anymore. Of course, it can take a little bit of time and understanding and finding what your specific triggers are. Why is it that you will consistently sacrifice yourself for this enjoyment in the moment rather than getting your long-term pleasure or result that you want? But once we've nailed the mindset down— now, this doesn't mean we do mindset and forget the rest, but we need to be consistently working on mindset at the same time because ultimately our mindset will determine the level at which we work on the other 3 components. So we need to work on mindset, and the key, or the number 1 component, is we need to align our belief in self with the level of action required to get the result that we want. So meaning, if I want to lose 20 pounds and I don't believe I can lose 20 pounds, that's a problem. Because if I don't believe it and I don't believe it's possible because I'm too tired or I've got too much going on or I can't afford it or whatever the belief is, if I believe I can't lose that weight, I will not act in alignment with it, meaning I won't eat accordingly, I won't move accordingly, and I won't rest and recover accordingly. So, we need to make sure our mindset is aligned with the goal. Then, once we've got that, we then go to component number 2, or pillar number 2, which is metabolic meals. Now, of course, meals, we're referring to food, right? So, this is our nutritional component. We need to eat in accordance with the outcome that we want. So, if I want to be fitter, leaner, and stronger, and I want to burn off my body fat, I need to fuel my body in a way where it's going to adapt to those specific, um, results that I want. So if that's what I'm after but I continue eating junk food and processed crap, I might get some results, but I'm not going to get the extent of the result that I really want. And then all the effort that I put in is going to feel like it's not worth it because it's going to either take too long or I'm never going to quite get there, and I'm always going to be lacking in my results. Because I haven't gone all in on the food. Now, when I say all in, that doesn't necessarily mean I need to eat perfect every single minute of every single day. It just means that the large majority of the time we do eat accordingly. We eat healthy foods, whole foods such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, whole grains. So dairy and whole grains, though, the nuance there is if you can tolerate them, because many people have intolerances and so on that they may not be aware of. But we want to hopefully eat more of that real food in its sort of natural whole food state as much as possible, rather than the processed convenient foods that we tend to lean on, particularly when times get stressful or if we're not very adept in the kitchen and we're just relying on other people to take care of our food for us. So mindset and meals, those are the first two pillars. Now our third one is movement. Now, of course, we want to move in a way that's going to stimulate the body to improve. Now, notice it says metabolic movement and not metabolic exercise or metabolic training, because it's movement that's essential, not exercise. Now, that's not me saying don't do exercise, because of course exercise is a very good way to get the results, or training, which gets even more specific. It's like a more specific and focused version of exercise. That is going to be the pinnacle of you trying to get results. But in the beginning, it might be a case of, well, I know I'm too nervous to go to the gym, I don't even know what exercises to do, and so on. So instead, we just look at ways to improve or increase the amount of movement that we're doing so that we can create more of a movement-based stimulus in the body. Because the more that we stimulate our muscles and our joints and so on through movement, the more our body then goes, oh, Actually, this person is using me now a lot more than it was. It's now putting these different stresses and strains on me. So I'm going to have to start getting stronger. I'm going to have to get fitter. I'm going to have to get more capable of doing these things. And the body will start adapting according to the type of movement that you're doing. So movement for you might be going for a walk initially, or it might be dancing. It might be playing with your kids. It might be going for a run if that's what you want to do, or it might be getting your ass in the gym. Either way, we need to ideally have some form of movement there because we want to create the stimulus for change in the body. And then of course, we fuel that change through the metabolic meals that we're bringing in on a daily basis. So we provide the raw resources here to repair the body from anything that we might be doing in our metabolic movement. Now, the final piece is where we compound all this together and hopefully guarantee that we're getting the changes in the adaptations that we want and making sure our body actually has the time required to make use of these meals to repair from this movement. So our final component is metabolic melatonin. Now, many of you have probably heard of melatonin. That's basically our sleep hormone. Now, because it's called metabolic melatonin, that doesn't mean we focus specifically on that. This isn't about supplementing with melatonin or anything. What we're really saying here is making sure our body has the opportunity to fully rest and recover, because many of us, particularly as we get older, our adaptive capacity, or our body's ability to fully recover, begins to diminish. It's just part of the natural process of aging. So in order to compensate for that, we actually have to now get involved a bit more consciously. We can't just assume it's going to happen because we're young and vigorous and and the body is naturally doing these things because we're still below the aging process. Once we get mid-30s, 40s, mid-40s and so on, now things begin to slowly decline. It doesn't mean it gets bad. It doesn't mean it makes, oh my God, this is so hard now. It just means that we have to be more mindful about what we're doing. Now, the absolute ultimate aspect of metabolic melatonin or our rest and recovery is, of course, sleep. Sleep is the number one recovery protocol, and many of us, particularly if we're busy entrepreneurs and business owners, do not get enough. The business always takes priority, and there's always something else that needs doing, and it tends to bleed right into our day and our home life and so on. And as a result, often eats into our sleep. Even if we're not technically working, often the mind is still going, I could do this, I could do that, and all these different ideas and things coming into the mind, which disrupts the quality of the sleep and rest and recovery that we're getting. So I know I've covered a lot there and it's like, well, now this sounds just as complicated as anything else, but it's not. It's really just 4 things. We don't want anything else outside of this until these are nailed down. And even just the smallest tweaks in each category can start to move you towards your goals. So for example, in meals, you might not even choose to follow a plan. You might just go, you know what, I'm gonna eat less of that junk that I keep eating. And I'm going to eat more of the good stuff. Well, what's the good stuff? Meat, fish, veg, fruit, herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, legumes maybe, and eggs, dairy, whole grains if I can tolerate them. Brilliant. So that's the whole foods brought in in any way or recipe that you like. And then the bad stuff. Okay, all the sweets, treats, processed foods, convenience foods. I'm going to eat less of that. So there's no specific diet. It's just I'm going to bring in some good stuff and get rid of some of the bad stuff. In movement, it might be, uh, I'm not ready to go to a gym. What can I do? All right, well, I'm going to go for a 15-minute walk every day, and when I get to work, I'm going to make sure I take the stairs rather than the elevator. When I go to the shops, I'm going to park at the far end of the car park, and so on. So initially, there might not even be a specific, well, I need a training plan, and now I need a nutrition plan, and I need a— you don't necessarily need any of that when you first start. We want to keep it as simple as possible and those simple, easy lifestyle tweaks that we can make will help us get to where we're going. Then in terms of our rest and recovery, initially it could be as simple as, right, well, I know I don't get enough sleep, so what I'm going to do is start going to bed 15 minutes earlier every night for the next week. So I've been going to bed at midnight, I'm now going to go at 11:45. Simple as that. Now it does seem on the surface, well, that's quite insignificant, but when it's compounded with the other things that we're going to do, plus keeping our mindset in the right place, that then ensures that we're actually going to move towards our goals without having to do any one thing to any particular extreme. Because the idea and the goal is to avoid doing any of this at an extreme. Now, of course, if you get to a point where you go, well, actually, I've got an extreme goal now, I want to get on a stage and perform, that's different. So then we would look more extreme and we'd want to get narrower and more specific. But for most of us, we just want to look, move, and feel better. We're just sick and tired of being in a body that feels weak, that's aching, and that's overweight and so on. And we're fucking sick of it. We want to feel good about ourselves and obviously carry that confidence and that new self-esteem into our business and into our family life so that we can show up as a better leader. So we want to keep it as simple as possible just by beginning to think right, work on our mindset, understand how we think and feel and operate. Focus on getting some better quality meals in, do a bit more movement, and just make sure that we're resting and recovering more than we currently are. Because often we aren't doing enough recovery because that's a female thing and women like to do all that kind of caring for themselves and nurture. But the truth is, particularly as we get older, we need more of it. It doesn't mean we can't eventually train hard. We can still smash it up in the gym, but then we also have to make sure that we're resting hard in order to compensate because the body isn't necessarily going to be quite as efficient as it used to be when you were in your 20s and so on. So we just need to compensate for that. Now, if you guys have any questions on this, feel free to drop them below.
