Hearing God’s Voice (Wisdom)

Wisdom calls out in the public square, but today's noise drowns it out. The speaker warns against using "God told me" to avoid correction, and shares how he and his father misinterpreted God's guidance. True obedience to God's specific instructions, even small ones, opens the door to divine intervention.

What's up? So listen, I want to jump straight into this, and it's basically dealing with God's wisdom or hearing God's voice or something like that. Um, but I was— as I was reading chapter 1 in the book of Proverbs, verses 20 and 21, uh, and as well as like kind of focus on 23, um, so it's so much in there dealing with hearing God's wisdom. And before we kind of jump into that perspective or unpacking it, let's kind kind of stay with the text first. Wisdom calls out in the street, she makes her voice heard in the public square, she cries out above the commotion, she speaks at the entrance of the city gates. Going over to verse 23, if you respond to my warning, then I will pour out my spirit on you and teach you my words. What is that saying? God, wisdom doesn't need to be found. We don't have to go on this big quest to search for it and things like that. He's saying in this passage of scripture is that, will you hear me? You just need to be heard. She cries out above the commotion. She speaks at the entrance of the city gates. The problem is that we face today, like I said, I think a while ago, I know I wrote on the status on Facebook, is that we live in a day and age now where we have information overload. Everybody, we're probably one of the most knowledgeable generations, but we have a problem with focusing And we are, because we are so distracted. And so when you have all of these voices, all of this noise just fighting for your attention through books contradicting one book, professor contradicting one professor, one pastor contradicting another pastor, uh, you know, teachers versus contradicting teachers, and friends contradicting friends. And sometimes you just, you, and you might be one of those people, you might contradict something and then someone comes back and contradicts something that you said, and it sounds real good And so it leads us to start asking questions of what is truth? What is God's word? What is right? What is wrong? What is wise? What am I to do? And so what happens is we start elevating all of these voices over God's voice. And yes, it's one God, one Jesus, and one Holy Spirit. And I've never seen so many confusion with all of us saying that we feel with this Holy Spirit, but that's another topic for another day. And so What we need to start doing, or the main challenge that I want to give to myself as well as you all, is learning to— how— learning how to turn down all these voices that try to supersede God. Now, before I go there, I'm not saying use this as a cop-out, because what happens is a lot of us, we don't like being corrected. We don't like when somebody else, uh, make a point that, that contradicts maybe a belief that we had or paradigm, you know, that we once subscribed to, or whatever perspective or whatever that may be. And so What has started to take place is that, using myself as an example, is that I'll start saying, well, I heard directly from God. This is— I'm hearing directly from the throne room of God, and that's not what I should be doing. And it— I could be straight up lying. It's just I'm in my way, I'm in my flesh, I'm in my smartness, my intellect. And so you never want to use God as a cop-out to basically, uh, push somebody away that truly might be giving or stating, you know, a wise counsel. Providing wise counsel, in other words. And so you truly want to make sure you're hearing from God. Another example is I was talking to my dad yesterday, and we were just using an example and say like, what if you were praying and saying, Lord, I'm really doing— I believe that I'm really doing the will of God and the work, but I don't have the money, I don't have this, and I'm trusting you to help me grow this audience. Or, uh, not just for my sake, but God, you know I have— I'm, I'm after your heart, I'm living through the power of the Spirit, And so you confess all, and God already knew, you know, but you're confessing them, we're confessing them. And so God, you know, he speaks to you through your word, then you come to the conclusion that you've been led by the Spirit to say, uh, do post a clip once a week for 30 to 60 seconds, nothing less, nothing more. And you see, so you just start looking at all this stuff and say, well man, people doing this, they doing that, extreme graphics. This, this and that. They got all this stuff, man. And you start listening to experts in the field saying, oh no, you're not going to get anywhere with that, man. You got to put this with that. You need to do this with that. But God truly said it. And so now you're doing it all these different ways. You're trying all these different methods, trying to spend money here, trying to learn this technique. So it's taking you away from putting out content and doing it the way God told you. And so then a year later, now you're going back to God and saying, God, what is wrong? I've been doing it And the question is asked, and God is not asking because he doesn't know the answer. Just through all scripture, he's asking because of you. It's for you, for me, us. It's all inclusive. And so then he's basically— he asked, did you do what I tell you to do? Did you follow the instructions that I gave you? He's like, well, no, uh, no, uh, yeah, you know. So we started making a lot of excuses, whatever. So the point is, is that we didn't do it the way he said do it. So I want to encourage you to be faithful to what God told you. Do the whatever he told you, be faithful in that area. The last thing he told you, do it that exact way. Because a lot of times divine, divine intervention, if you look through scripture, was basically carried out through the mundane task. With my dad, I was talking yesterday, I did a message, I think This Time Around or The Rematch or something like that, with the power of God. And one of the things that was asked was with the walls of Jericho, it was a— it was fortified, you know, it was a stronghold. This thing couldn't be penetrated. But as they walked around, you know, things like that, was it about the wall falling or was it more about obedience? And so that's why I want to ask you, is it about whatever that you're trying to accomplish or is it more about obedience to God? And so turn down the noise, turn down the voices, and truly make sure that you're hearing God because he's crying out. He's crying out. Don't be swayed by everyone having an opinion, everybody contradicting one another. Truth is in the word of God. Truth is through the Holy Spirit, through the true Holy Spirit operating through his people, through the instructions of God. So there you have it. So, and one thing I want to say tonight, I'm sorry, I forgot about this. When I say about being so in tune with God is that my wife can come to me right now and say, babe, I truly believe I heard from God. And like, my Holy Spirit, you know, we in agreement with and things like that. Honestly, at that point, whatever she say God told her, if she asked me my take on it, I'm hands off. I am not about to try to supersede that. And she does the same with me if it's truly the voice of God. And so that's all I'm saying, people. Make sure that you are truly hearing God's voice above all others. Be blessed. I love you all. Subscribe to this page. There's more content coming. I plan on doing this regularly on YouTube as well as, uh, the podcast. The podcast launches January 25th. We kicking it off. I'm not going to share what direction we're going in, how we're going to share it, because I just want to kind of do that separately. But subscribe to it. I'll post these links in the the channel. And like I say, just continue to seek God, man. Be blessed and make this a year that truly honors him.
