The best protection you have for your assets is anonymity. If you make yourself inconspicuous and non-identifiable, then a lawyer looking for a deep-pocketed defendant cannot find you. And if you can't be found and associated with assets, then a lawyer will assume that you don't have any. No lawyer wants to sue somebody that doesn't have any money. Here's one example of how to do that. Create a Wyoming LLC that does not require the disclosure of the identity of the manager or the member of the LLC. So there's nothing there to associate that LLC with you. And while you're here, jump on the newsletter in my profile link. Another example would be to put your home into a land trust. Then you appoint a nominee trustee to hold title to the trust, and that creates a situation where you are in control, but you are hidden. As a lawyer who filed lawsuits for 25 years, I can assure you the chance of your being sued will be minimized if you appear to be asset poor.
