Jerry Taylor explains how Medicaid can place a lien on your home to recover long-term care costs. You can protect it with a Medicaid Asset Protection Trust, but you need to set it up at least five years before you need care.

This is what I've been trying to warn you about. Medicaid recovery for long-term care benefits, nursing home benefits paid on your behalf, is real. They will put a lien on your home. This is completely avoidable with a Medicaid Asset Protection Trust. Put your home in a Medicaid Asset Protection Trust for 5 years before you need long-term care, and it will be completely exempt from Medicaid recovery.
