If you haven't named a guardian for your child and something were to happen to you, this is what's going to happen to your child. A judge who doesn't know the first thing about you, your family, or your child is going to make that decision for you. In that situation, literally anyone could come forward and try to make the argument that they are the best person to be the guardian for your child. I can tell you that the person who looks best on paper is the one who the court often chooses, and that may or may not be who you would want to take care of your child. You need to decide who would be the guardian of your child if you were no longer around. And a good place to put this is in your will. Likewise, if there was someone in your family that you would never want to be the guardian of your child, you can name that person as well. You don't have to put her in your will. You can put it in a private document, a document that your attorney or a very close friend would keep that outlines why you would never want that person to be guardian for your child. You've taken care of everything else for your child. Do this as well. And go to my Linktree to work with
