The majority of older women who are divorced or widowed do not want to get remarried. The recent census data in the United States shows that 53% of women over the age of 65 are divorced, widowed, or have never been married. When it comes to men in that same category, the number is 30%. Does that mean that women are smarter than men? Probably. What I can tell you without a doubt is that if you are older and single, there is even more reason to do planning. And here's why. If you're married or have a significant other and you become incapacitated, during your life, there's going to be somebody there to take care of you. If you're single, who is that person going to be? Anyone who is single at the very minimum needs power of attorney documents, financial and medical, showing who's going to step in and make those decisions for you if you can't. And if you create a trust, it will provide even greater authority to someone to be able to step in and take care of you and give you the care that you need and want. Sign up for my
