When do you need a lawyer like me? That's a question I get asked several times every single day. On TikTok, I call myself a money lawyer or money protection lawyer because that's what I do. In the legal realm, I'm known as an estate planning lawyer, but most people don't know what that is. The question most people want answered is, can I do this on my own? And when do I absolutely need a lawyer? First one that comes to mind is if you have a blended family and you have kids from prior marriages. In that situation, you need to talk it through with a lawyer like me. Especially if you're trying to pass assets along to stepchildren. Another situation is if you have out-of-state property or assets. Next, if you want to disinherit a family member, if you have family with special needs or who are on government benefits, if you want to protect assets from Medicaid recovery for long-term care benefits, then if you want asset protection or you are concerned about estate taxes, you'll need an irrevocable trust and you definitely need a lawyer like me. If you want to leave assets to someone in a foreign country or you have a small business, that is not a complete list by any means, so follow for more. Jerry Taylor.
