Marriage doesn't automatically give your spouse that authority. Create a medical power of attorney, financial power of attorney, and living will to choose who decides for you.
If you had an accident and you couldn't make decisions for yourself, who would? Financial and medical. Just because you're married doesn't give your spouse that authority. Who will manage your assets? Who will make sure you get the care you need? If you don't have those answers documented, a judge will end up making those decisions for you. A judge that you most likely don't even know. You should decide who you want to handle these responsibilities and put that in a medical power of attorney and a financial power of attorney and a living will.
