Short YouTube video (Vanessa & Xander Marin) addressing couples in stressful life periods. They read a DM about partners feeling burned out and advise acknowledging the situation explicitly, offering a short script to start a compassionate conversation and request low-key intimacy (cuddles) during a ‘season of survival.’
If you and your partner are in a season of survival right now, take a moment and watch this video.
Check out this DM we recently got. The last few months have been one unexpected crisis after another and we are both so burned out that we don't even have the energy to talk about intimacy other than we want it, but we just have no energy for it. It actually makes me feel closer to my husband for us both to acknowledge that we just need a lot of cuddles and low key intimacy right now.
There is one single word in that message that is extre. Extremely important if you're in a season of survival.
That word is acknowledge.
Typically when couples are in a tough place, they feel really embarrassed and ashamed and they don't want to acknowledge what's going on.
But here's the problem with this approach. Your partner doesn't know what's going on inside your head, so you end up leaving them wondering, how does my partner feel about this dry spell? Do they even care? Are they still attracted to me?
The best thing that you can do for your relationship is acknowledge the reality that you are in. So. So here's your sign to have that conversation with your partner. Here's a super simple script that you can follow. I know we're in a season of survival right now. This sucks. And I wish it wasn't this way. I can't wait until we can get back to prioritizing us.
