One of my husband's green flags is that he got this matching tattoo with me. It's obviously the word and. And it's meant to symbolize our favorite piece of relationship advice that two things can be true at the same time. So far too often in disagreements in relationships, we wind up arguing over who was right in the argument. Was my perspective the right one or your perspective was the right one? And it often feels completely ineffective because both people think that they're right and neither person wants to change their mind. But what the word and is a reminder us in our relationship is that both of our experiences are right and equally valid simply because they are our experiences. So he just makes space for the reality that his experience and my experience, even if they're totally opposing experiences, both of them are real and valid. And he even does that by using language like I did felt said this and you did, or felt and said that. Just using that word can totally change the feel of a conversation.
