Can this help you have more empathy for your male partner?

Xander Marin explains that for many men, sex is a primary way to seek intimacy because they've been socialized away from emotional expression. He suggests asking your male partner how sex actually feels for him, beyond orgasm, to understand his vulnerability.

If you're like most women, you probably feel like the primary reason your partner wants to have sex with you is further release, like you're just the vessel for his pleasure. Obviously, that's not going to make sex feel very appealing. It might even feel downright dehumanizing. But hear me out. As a man, I can tell you we receive a lot of shitty socialization that teaches us we're not supposed to be emotional or vulnerable. Even though I rationally believe that's not true, I still feel the impacts of it myself. Often it just doesn't feel okay or silly, safe to express emotion. And I think most women just underestimate how painful and damaging this is for us men. But here's the thing. Even though we're scared of being truly vulnerable, we still want intimacy and connection. And even if we're not able to articulate it very well, most of us men do feel like sex is one of the few ways that we are allowed to be vulnerable. So we come to you with that vulnerability, wanting to truly connect. But you write us off as just being horny, or you get annoyed by our desire or to tell us to leave you alone. And that hurts even more. Now, I'm not saying we men don't have a lot to learn about emotional intimacy, because we do. That's one of the things I'm here to teach men about. And I'm not saying you owe your partner sex, because you don't. But it will go a long way if you can recognize that sex isn't just about sex. For us, it really, truly is our way of wanting to feel close to you. So let this be your sign to ask your partner how it really feels for him to have sex with you outside of just an orgasm, or how it helps him feel closer to you. And hit the follow button so you can see part two, where my wife Vanessa, talks about how women actually struggle, struggle to be vulnerable during sex.
