Vanessa Marin, a psychotherapist, and her husband Xander have been together 18 years. They're cutting screen time to rebuild intimacy, starting with a rule: no phones or TV until they spend intentional time together first. They're documenting the experiment and inviting others to try it.

This is day one of us forbidding ourselves from having any screen time until we've had.
All right, but let's back it up for a second. A couple months ago we were writing an Instagram post about things that we struggle with as a couple.
Our different approaches to time management, interrupting each other and yes, spending way too much time on our phones and watching tv. Even as a licensed psychotherapist.
And her super self aware husband.
Spending too much time on your phones or watching TV is one of the easiest bad habits for couples to fall into. Especially if you've been together as long as we have. 18 years. Our evenings are usually spent glued to our phones or binge watching our latest reality show. And let's be honest, the new season of Love is Blind is about to come out, which is gonna make this a whole lot harder and oftentimes doing both at the same time.
But we realized something a little uncomfortable.
We were using the excuse that we didn't have enough time for intimacy, even though we clearly had plenty of time to spend on our screens. So we decided to break the habit.
And our new rule.
Before we can spend any time on our screens, we have to have so this is day one of our experiment.
Follow along to see how it goes.
