So it feels like your partner's body image issues are ruining your sex life and you want to fix it first. I just got to say this is a kind of toxic way of thinking about it. It is so important to have compassion for what your partner is going through. You really don't want to make your partner feel guilty about this on top of all the other emotions that they're already feeling. I get it. This is a really hard thing to watch your partner go through. But this is not something that you alone can fix. Your partner has to want a better relationship with their body, too. With that being said, there are some things you can do to support your partner. You can ask your partner to share more about their relationship with their body. Women spend their entire lives being taught to hate their body. There's a lot of trauma to dig through, and it can be really helpful to talk about it. You can support your partner in creating time and resources to take care of themselves. Make room in the budget for an activity that they love, like dance classes or getting a trainer. You can give specific compliments about their body. What are things that you see that they don't? When they speak negatively about their body, you can say something back like, I love your body so, so much, and it hurts my heart that you don't see what I see. You can carefully tell them the impact that their body image has on the intimacy between you two. Now, you need to be really sensitive with your words so you could say something like this. I know your relationship with your body is complex, and I know that it's something that you need to decide to change for yourself. It's tough when I want to feel close to you and I can feel you being distant because you're thinking about your body. I wish we could be truly present with each other without those fears.
