How do I talk to my wife about being more adventurous in the bedroom without hurting her feelings?

Vanessa Marin walks through how to ask your partner for more adventurous sex without making them feel bad. Start by reminding them of something you both enjoyed, then suggest one specific thing you saw somewhere else, and frame it as exploring together.

You want to talk to your partner about being more adventurous in the bedroom, but you're worried that you'll hurt their feelings. Let's make the bed together. While I walk you through exactly how to do this, do not say, I want you to be more adventurous. This is an example of what I call a setting your partner up for failure request. Because be more adventurous is so vague, your partner's not going to know what that really means. And instead, they're just going to feel embarrassed and ashamed, and they're certainly not going to do anything different. I don't want you to bring up the idea of doing something brand new just yet. Instead, what I want you to do is reminisce with your partner about something that you used to do in the bedroom together. So say something to your partner like, you know what memory just randomly popped into my head the other day? Fill in the blank. That was so much fun, and I would love to do that with you again. So I really like encouraging people to start with things that you've already done, because your partner's gonna feel more confident. They know specifically what you're asking for, so they have the confidence of knowing that they did it and they did it well. And it also helps you get some moment going with mixing things up in the bedroom. At this point, you can start talking about doing new things in the bedroom. Pick one specific thing that you want to try out with your partner, and you can tell them that you heard it on a podcast, you saw it on Instagram, and as soon as you heard the idea, you thought of them and how much fun it would be to do with them. So the key to getting your partner to be more adventurous is to really focus on exploring with your partner. It needs to be personal, like it's more about your partner than it is about trying out the specific thing.
