Vanessa and Xander Marin briefly summarize two relationship lessons from 15 years together: (1) prioritize understanding each other’s perspectives rather than seeking agreement during conflicts, and (2) ask for help when needed to strengthen teamwork. They invite listeners to hear the remaining 13 lessons on their podcast episode.

To celebrate 15 years together, we put together a podcast episode of 15 Lessons Learned. Number one aim for understanding, not agreement. For most couples, they think that the only way to resolve conflict is by agreeing on it. So one person has to be right, one person has to be wrong. But you just get stuck and it never feels like conflict is going anywhere. So instead we've learned that it's so much more valuable and effective to focus on trying to understand each other's perspectives. That makes us each feel seen and respected and heard. We validate each other's feelings just feels so much better than trying to have exact agreement about what happened.
Number two Ask for help when you need it. As a guy, it's so easy to get in your head and think you have to figure things out on your own, but that could not be further from the truth. Asking for help will actually strengthen your relationship and help you work together as a team. If you want to check out the other 13, listen to the episode.
