We don't really have a lot of honest, open conversations about how challenging parenting really is and what it really looks like. We have a lot of romanticized views of what it looks like, and very often what we hear from couples is there's not a lot of honest discussion in the lead up to having kids about what this is really going to look like, how challenging it's really going to be, how there's inherently going to be some imbalances and stuff. If we're not talking about it as a couple before it even happens, then of course it's going to be really hard to talk about it in the moment, to express what's going on in the moment, because you weren't even expecting to feel these things.
