YouTube video (Vanessa and Xander Marin) discussing whether physical or emotional intimacy should come first. They recommend prioritizing emotional intimacy—arguing sex can feel unsafe or unhealthy when partners are disconnected or when anger/resentment exist—but emphasize physical intimacy is equally valid and relationships need a balance. The video references a Part 1 with more detailed discussion.
Get ready with us while we talk about the physical emotional conundrum.
That's where one partner wants to feel emotionally connected before having sex and the other partner wants to have sex as a way to feel emotionally connected.
Scroll back to part one if you haven't seen it, because we talk about this in way more detail.
In that video, we asked the million dollar question, what should come first? Sex or emotional intimacy? And in this video we're going to give you the answer. Emotional intimacy should come first. Here's why. It often doesn't feel safe or healthy to be physically intimate with somebody when you're feeling wildly disconnected from them. And it can be even worse if you're in a situation that so many couples find themselves in where anger or resentment are involved.
Now we want to be really clear. Physical intimacy is just as important and valid as emotional intimacy. All relationships need a balance of both.
But if you're finding yourself in a really tough or stuck place, we definitely recommend starting by rebuilding the emotional intimacy first.
