A short educational YouTube video (Rimming 101) by Vanessa and Xander Marin that explains the sexual practice of rimming. The hosts cover consent and communication, inclusivity (people of all genders can enjoy anal play), practical hygiene steps (showering, washing the anus), STI risk and protection options (dental dams or a cut-open condom), post-play oral hygiene, and advice that rimming alone usually won’t produce orgasm so should be combined with genital stimulation if desired. The tone is instructional, sex-positive, and practical.

No. We need to start a video like that. Rimming. Do people really do it? Lick each other's buttholes?
Well, the answer is yes, and it's not as scary as you might think.
In this video, we are breaking it all down for you. The Cleanliness Technique. Orgasm. So much more. But first, we want to know, have you heard of rimming before? Or maybe you've heard of it, but you've heard it referred to as a different word or a term? So let us know in the comments.
If you're brand new to our channel, we, of course, want to say hi. We are Vanessa and Xander Marin. Vanessa here is a sex therapist. We've been together for 15 years. And these cute little faces to the side of us, which you may or may not see, are our pugs, Maggie and Winston.
And our account is all about giving you the tools, tips, and techniques that you need to create a truly extraordinary relationship inside the bedroom and out. So if that's something you're interested in, then who wouldn't be? Then just go ahead and hit that subscribe button. Okay, so let's talk about rimming. Rimming is having a moment. For a very long time, it was really thought of as like this more advanced, more kinky type of thing. But these days, a lot more people are trying it, and even people who might otherwise have described themselves as, like, not that adventurous or even kind of vanilla. And we're even starting to see it depicted in the media for the first time ever. There have been some TV shows, some movies that are finally starting to show it. So whenever we talk about any sort of sexual act, the place that we always like to start is with consent. You want to make sure that your partner, and this doesn't matter if you're with a partner for that night or a partner that you've been with for decades, you always want to make sure that your partner is on board with doing something like this. Definitely make sure they're on board with any form of anal play. So in general, we like having these conversations outside of the bedroom. First, you can mention to your partner, like, this YouTube video popped up in my feed today, and I was wondering what you think about it. But make sure it's something that your partner is excited, excited to explore.
Another important note about rimming is that people of all genders can enjoy it. So an important note, for all the straight men watching this, if you're curious about rimming, if you're curious about or enjoying any kind of anal play, that does not mean that you are gay. It Says nothing about your sexuality.
All right, let's talk about the hygiene and safety aspect of it. Because when it comes to rimming, this is really the thing that trips a lot of people up. Like, isn't the butthole this horrible dirty place? Like, why would I want to put my mouth on that? Rimming really does not have to be that big of a deal. There are a few simple steps that you can do to make it a safer experience. Of course, any form of sex comes with its risks, so you want to make sure that you feel educated and informed to make these decisions. But for example, like, super easy thing to do here is shower first, wash that butthole with a little bit of soap. You don't need to go internally into the butthole, but just washing your anus itself, like, will make things nice and clean for playing around later.
All right, so when it comes to rimming, we do want to say that you can transmit STIs while rimming. So unless you're fluid bonded with your partner, you do need to use some kind of protection when you are rimming someone. So a dental dam works really well for rimming. Or you can cut open a non lubricated condom and use that as sort of a faux dump dental dam.
Another important point is if you are doing any sort of rimming on a vulva owner, you do not want to lick from the anus to the vagina. You can bring bacteria into the vagina, cause irritation or infection. And this is the same if you're using a finger, a toy, a penis on the anus. You never want to go from anus to vagina.
And then just like with any form of anal play, we always recommend cleaning up afterwards. So if you are rimming, we would highly recommend brushing your teeth and also your lips and use some mouthwash and you'll be good to go.
Let's talk a little bit about orgasm. So whenever we talk about any form of anal play, a lot of people get curious about, like, is that enough to lead to orgasm? So for the vast majority of people, anal play alone is not going to be enough stimulation to make you orgasm. It might feel really good, really exciting, but most people are just not going to be able to get there from anal play alone. So we always recommend for any form of anal play and definitely for rimming, if you're doing it to also have some form of genital stimulation. So maybe you reach around to your partner's genitals, maybe you use a toy on them, maybe they touch themselves while you're doing it. So those are just all great ways to like, bring in more stimulation and make sure that your partner, if they want to orgasm, is able to orgasm. So that wraps up the basics of the rimming 101.
