Today is week 1 of trying to win my wife over the same way I did when we first started dating. TV and movies have made us obsessed with this idea of getting the girl, but you rarely see anyone put that same effort in, in the long term. So as a result, most long-term couples end up reporting feeling like the spark is gone and that they feel more like roommates than romantic partners. I've been with my wife almost 20 years, and even though we've made a career out of helping couples in long-term relationships find and keep that passion, I'll admit I am I'm still guilty of this every now and then, falling into that trap of thinking I've already put in the work. So I decided to start this series to hold me accountable to making an active and a consistent effort to make her feel the same way she did almost 20 years ago— pursued, cherished, desired. And to kick things off, I started with asking her more interesting questions. This might seem like a small thing, but honestly, most couples conversations in the long term start to sound like So, how was your day? Fine. How about yours? Fine. And honestly, that is not very exciting. But back at the beginning of our relationship, we were fascinated with this other person. We wanted to get to know everything we could about them. And so we'd be asking them deeper, more creative, more meaningful questions. So this week, that's what I'm going to do with my wife. Follow along to hold me accountable and to see how it goes.
