In this introductory YouTube video, licensed psychotherapist Vanessa Marin and her husband Xander introduce themselves as a couple who have been together for nearly 20 years and are dedicated to helping other couples maintain sexual intimacy. They share their personal backgrounds—Vanessa’s mixed‑heritage upbringing in Santa Barbara and her journey to becoming a “sock therapist” (sex therapist), and Xander’s surf‑culture, tech‑career roots in Santa Cruz and San Francisco. They recount the early, intense chemistry of their relationship, the later emergence of common long‑term issues such as low or mismatched desire and performance anxiety, and the feeling of isolation that often accompanies these challenges. Recognizing a lack of practical, relatable tools, they set a mission to create concrete techniques (e.g., how to respond when a partner recoils, handling fatigue, and becoming each other’s best sexual partner). They claim to have transformed their own sex life into a deeply intimate, passionate, and satisfying one, and they distill key lessons: a great relationship requires a great sex life, and keeping the spark alive is not overly complicated if intentional, small tricks are applied. The video concludes with a call to action, inviting viewers who refuse to settle for “fine” relationships to follow their channel for step‑by‑step guidance.

Hey there, we are Vanessa and Xander Marin. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in the things you do in the bedroom. Let's just call it sex.
And me, I'm her regular dude husband.
We've been together almost 20 years and we are here to help you keep the spark alive in your marriage.
You may know us as the co-authors of the New York Times bestselling book Socks Talks: The 5 Conversations That Will Transform Your Love Life, or as guests on some of the biggest podcasts in the world like the Mel Robbins Podcast, Armchair Expert, and We Can Do Hard Things, or as a couple who embarrasses ourselves acting out terrible couple stretching positions for our community of millions.
I grew up in Santa Barbara, California, the first of 3 kids of a Mexican mom and a white dad. In my home, socks was not something that we talked about openly ever. But despite that, or maybe because of it, I was super curious about socks. So to the embarrassment of everyone around me, I decided to study it. But I was harboring a really big secret. I couldn't o with a partner. Here I was wanting to spend my life helping other people with their socks lives, but feeling like an imposter for not being able to figure out my own socks life.
Meanwhile, I was growing up surfing in Santa Cruz, California. When Vanessa and I met in San Francisco after college, I was working a tech job trying to climb the corporate ladder. I thought it was cool that Vanessa was training to become a socks therapist, but I already had my dream job working at Google.
When we first met, the chemistry was insane. We could not keep our hands off of each other, and we breezed through all of the major relationship milestones like becoming official and moving in together.
But then something happened. That chemistry that felt so undeniable at the beginning was just gone. Gone. What had once felt so easy now felt frustratingly complicated. And the problems, they started piling up. Low desire, mismatched desire, performance issues. We felt so embarrassed and so alone.
And even though I had already been in the sock therapy field for years, I didn't know of any practical tools to help us solve the disconnection and bring the spark back to life. Figuring out how to claw ourselves out of that hole was not easy or fast, but it lit a fire under both of us because we eventually realized that we weren't alone in what we were going through. In fact, most long-term relationships go through exactly the same thing, starting off hot and heavy and then catching yourselves a few years into it wondering, what the hell happened to us?
So we made it our mission to create the tools and techniques that we wish that we had had for ourselves, like what to do when you try to touch your partner and they cringe, how to navigate when it's 10:37 PM and you're exhausted but your partner's giving you that look, and how to be the best your partner's ever had.
Even though our journey of getting here was not pretty, we now have a deeply intimate, passionate, and satisfying sex life that we are super proud of, and we've learned couple important lessons along the way, like you can't have a great relationship without a great sex life, and that keeping the spark alive isn't actually all that complicated.
It just takes a few small intentional tricks, and that working on your sex life doesn't have to feel embarrassing or hard. It actually feels rewarding when you build something that you're proud of together.
If you're someone who doesn't want to settle for fine, if you're someone who wonders what's the point of having a relationship without sex, if you're someone who wants to be one of those couples that other people look at and think, I want what they have, then you're in the right place. Follow along and we'll show you how.
