Kathryn Bird warns UK travelers heading to Europe about two mistakes: your passport needs six months validity left, not just being valid, and motorhome insurance covering 180 days doesn't let you stay longer than 90 days in Schengen countries.

Hey guys, if you're planning a trip to Europe, I want to make sure that you don't get caught out by 2 very important things. Firstly, your passport— check the date of expiry. And then, if you're a UK passport holder, remember that the date of expiry that's written in your passport may not necessarily be the date that it expires. It is 10 years from the date of issue. So whatever the issue date is in your passport, your passport expires 10 years from that date. And then, of course, you need your 6-month grace period, so you've really only got 9 and a half years before you need to renew it, so don't get caught with that. Second thing, just because you have an insurance policy for your motorhome or campervan that gives you 180 days or more than 90 days cover does not mean that you can stay in the Schengen area for more than 90 days. You get 90 days and any rolling 180 days period, so for most people that's counted from leaving the UK to returning to the UK unless you go to a non-Schengen country. Hope that helps. If you need any more information, it's all in the notes. See you on the next video. Bye!
