NC500 road trip- what it's REALLY like!

Two travelers drive Scotland's NC500 route from Gairloch toward Ardmore Point, stopping at a remote beach campsite with a fire pit and water hookups. A mysterious banging noise plagues their van, and stormy weather forces them to Corryashallough Gorge, where they debate crossing a suspension bridge over a waterfall in the rain and wind.

Oh my God, this campsite is amazing! I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this. We're off again. I don't even know what day it is.
Saturday? Saturday.
No clue what day on my trip it is, but we're off. We're now driving from Gairloch, um, to Ardmore Point, I believe it is. But I'm gonna go via Melon Beach. There's more to the name than that, but I can't remember what it's called. And I'm also gonna go to one of the waterfalls, the one with the suspension bridge, because it's actually quite a nice sunny day and it's going to be the last of the sunny days.
No, no, no, there's a whole row of vans.
I've got something banging in my van and I can't figure out what it is. Driving me insane.
Isn't this beautiful?
This is the A No idea. A832.
Here we go, we're on one of these single track lanes again.
3-mile detour to safety beach.
Why not?
That's stunning. That's the campground with the inquiries.
This is the parking. In which there is not a whole lot of room.
No.
I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this.
It's beautiful.
It's like proper sand, like proper—
oh, hang on, can't actually see it.
There we go, proper sand. The dog's in his element, and I'm— I've got a bacon sandwich. I'm gonna sit here And just marvel at this beauty.
Wow, where the freaking heck are we?
This is insane! There is nobody here.
Look at this view, it's so cool.
There's not a single sign anywhere saying no overnight camping. I mean, I'm not gonna stay here because I've got a campsite booked, but it's really cool.
Wow, I mean, that is pretty amazing.
Holy moly, that there's number 6.
And you know what?
I think we're gonna reverse into that.
Look at it! It's quite windy! Just a little.
That's not me moving, that is the van shaking.
It is proper stormy.
Good morning, the storm is still raging, um, So I have backtracked on my steps a little bit to go to Corryashallough Gorge, or however the heck you pronounce it. It's still raining and it's still quite gusty, so I'm not entirely sure going on a suspension bridge is the best plan. I'm also not entirely sure that having a spaniel who likes water with me on a suspension bridge is the best plan either, but, uh, spaniel is ready to go.
Spaniel's always ready to go.
Spaniel's always ready to go.
Ready to go.
And, uh, I, I— the van is still being shaken around. Timed that pretty well, I would say. What do you think, pup?
Was that good?
Yep, timed that very well. Now see, this is going to be fun. There is—
What?
Hang on.
I've landed on the moon and there's a lorry coming the other way, but we did it. It's all right. I had that on record. I'll show you at some point what I meant. But wherever I am, I've got enormous boulders, like huge boulders. Do you think you ought to go down such tiny little roads in a great big van? The sat nav sent me that way.
Oh, that's the last bit.
Yeah, no, it's fine. Honestly, it's fine. Holy moly, you would not think that this place was here. Mobile home beach park, idyllic site.
Back to a beach campsite.
Oh my God, this campsite is amazing! It's so cool. They've got like dog bits and there's like a whole seating area with the lights and a fire pit, and there's like water on your pitch and Oh, it's epic! Like, just genuinely epic.
This is the way I'm going in. I dropped my phone. Nearly died.
Found it!
I have a thing for standing too close to waterfalls and getting a bit wet.
I'm officially paddling, and yes, It is going in my shoes, and yes, it's cold! Next time...
We find a big hole. I try the world's best hot chocolate. I rock a hard hat and fling myself off the side of a cliff. And Mac tries to turn into Dumbo.
