Will Lasry shows how to laser-distress a denim jacket with a velour top layer. The laser is programmed to cut only the velour surface without hitting the denim underneath, creating a precise distressed look that differs from mechanical scratching but offers more control.

So it's pretty insane how something that looks like this ends up finishing like this. Right now they've programmed this pattern onto the computer and we can see that they're actually lasering the left torso portion of a Type 1 denim jacket. This base fabric looks like a flock printed denim. Exactly. What they've done is they've adjusted the intensity of the laser to be just strong enough to pierce through the top layer of the fabric, so the velour portion, but not strong enough to go all the way through. So the denim at the base is going to be untouched, and that way this is going to come out really, really cool.
What we're doing here with the laser is the vintage base treatment done with— that we, we've seen done before with the scratching. Instead of the scratching, we can directly do it with the laser. The effect still is a little different from the regular scratching.
