An Italian factory shows two ways to cut fabric: an automatic machine that feeds material through a vacuum bed and cuts from a marker, versus hand cutting where an operator staples pattern paper to fabric and trims by hand.

So they have two options for cutting. Automatic cutting machine over there, they're laying out the fabric that's going back and forth like this. And then we have the marker to align perfectly to the width of the fabric. From there it advances to the section where the cutting actually happens. Underneath here there's a vacuum, it vacuums down the fabric, and then there's the backing plastic that they apply on top of the marker and the fabric. It starts cutting out the panels from the marker. And when it comes out the other side, you get all of your cut panels that are ready for production. That's option number 1. So the second option for cutting is cutting by hand using this machine. So his first step is stapling the pattern paper to the fabric to ensure it doesn't move around too much. And from there, he begins cutting. He's gonna follow the outline to take off all of the excess, all of the trim, and that's gonna leave behind exactly what he needs. This guy is a smooth criminal.
