Two artisans show how raffia bags are made in Italy. Fibers arrive from India, get dyed individually in the factory, then three or four workers crochet each bag by hand, one strand at a time. A single bag takes ten hours to complete.
This raffia comes from India. It's brought to Italy where it's dyed individually in a factory.
And it's yarn dyed, but in this case it's not yarn, it's a natural material that's actually being dyed. You have all these different colors, and right now she's working on this sky blue color, and she's actually weaving together this bag in crochet style. And this is all done by hands. They have up to 20 people in this factory that do hand embroidery. And for production for most of these products, it'll be 3 or 4 people that are going to be working on it one by one, one thread going through another thread at a time. Really classic way.
Ci sono circa 20 operatrici che lavorano sulla rafia. Per fare una borsa del genere ci vogliono all'incirca 10 ore. Abbiamo una produzione giornaliera, quindi 3-4 pezzi.
