Clinical rotations are a vital part of that experience becoming a healthcare professional, especially in physical therapy. But how do you get the most of that clinical rotation and get a job offer? In this video I will show you the three clinical rotation hacks that will not only help you get the most out of your rotation, but will help you get a job offer when it's all said and done. Guys, welcome to the profitable pt. I'm Will Humphries here, as always helping you increase your income, impact and freedom. I was a company owner for an outpatient physical therapy company with multiple locations for a number of years and I was able to see dozens of physical therapy students go through my company. Most of the time I wasn't aware of them since we had so many locations, but there was a handful of them that stood out to the degree that when they were done with the rotation, I had no choice but to give them a job. So let's go through those right now. Number one, interview or take out to lunch. The CEO, whoever that is, him or her. It is so vital to try to reach that person because even if you don't get them in a face to face interview, you still are showing all the other leadership your intention to be able to learn. And I can tell you that when someone asked to take me to lunch, it blew my mind. I had a student sit down with me once and explain to me what they were all about and wanted to know everything about why I started my company. And I think it would surprise you how accessible the leaders of these companies are. Mentorships are a big part of becoming a leader and it's a small way that we get to give back to the many people who served us to get into our positions. So you can learn a lot and put yourself on the radar by taking them out to lunch or interviewing whatever leadership you can get. Number two, find and serve. One of the biggest mistakes we can make in a clinical rotation is to quietly wait until we're told to do something. One way to stand out is to be aggressive and in our desire to learn and serve. So what that looks like is someone who's going to talk to patients a lot more aggressively. They're going to ask their clinical instructor, hey, what can I help with today? Not just with our patients, but what can I do to help you? That kind of mentality and attitude gets attention and I promise you, after a month, two months, whatever that clinical rotation period is, your direct report or your clinical instructor will remember you. If not, want to discuss how to hire you. Number three Conduct an in service. Now, listen, some schools require that you do this type of thing, but I would ask you to consider the opportunity that it is as a student to draw a company together and to teach something. That can be terrifying for sure for some. But if you look at it as an opportunity to serve the people around you, you have so much to offer. By being able to stand up in front of a group to the best of your ability and to teach them whatever it is that you're learning, you'll show them your dedication to the team. That's more important because I promise you, no one cares about the actual content as much as your intention to make an impact in that company. Now, that's the top three hacks, but I did put a fourth bonus one on there. It's an obvious one, but it's not so obviously executed. And that is mastering the small things. What I mean by that is that if you're on a clinical rotation and you want to convert that into a job offer, you're there early. You leave when you know everything's been done. You go through everything you can to show people your commitment and dedication to the company. And if you do those four things, I promise you, when it's all said and done, if you don't have a job offer, they'll already be discussing how to bring you on behind the scenes.
