Will Humphreys explains Dan Sullivan's gap versus gain mindset: the gap compares where you are to where you want to be, breeding constant dissatisfaction. The gain compares where you are to where you started, letting you celebrate progress. People in the gain still set goals but hit them harder, reportedly achieving ten times more.

Are you in the gap or in the gain? Dan Sullivan, the world's greatest coach, talks about how we experience life from being either in the gap when we compare ourselves now to where we want to be, or in the gain where we compare ourselves now to where we started. When we're in the gap, we're always looking to the future and are never satisfied or happy because we'll always be happy later when we achieve some desired goal. When we're in the gain, we still set goals because we want to make a change, but we're looking backwards and comparing our existing performance to what we used to be able to do. And in that space we always feel like we're enough because we're celebrating wins constantly. Studies have shown people that are in the game constantly achieve 10 times more than their goals because they're not needing something, they're just wanting something, and that makes all the difference.
