Physical therapists burn out because they trade time for money, forcing long hours. Will Humphreys says the fix is an entrepreneurial mindset: deliver higher perceived value, move to cash-based services, and charge more so you see fewer patients and actually improve outcomes.

If you're a physical therapist burning out, it's because you're exchanging time for money. So you think in order to make more money, you have to work more hours, which is impossible because you're already working so many crazy hours. So why not leave the profession? You have to change your mindset and start thinking like an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur starts thinking about how much value can I provide and then how can I charge a larger amount that people commit to. The result, ironically, when we start doing cash based services, or start negotiating contracts up higher, or we start getting paid more for what we do, patients get better results. We can actually make more money and see fewer patients per week ethically. And that's how we're going to solve this problem in physical therapy.
