Will Humphreys recounts a personal turning point from being criticized and demoralized by staff to learning how to hire and build a loyal, growth-oriented team. The clip centers on his emotional reaction to staff disparaging him (circa 2012), his decision to leave, and the later transformation (by 2018) when a strong team became central to profitability and leadership development.

Team is who you hire. Staff is an infection. So that staff meeting was all infected. When they're talking about how bad of an owner I was, oh, this guy. He's such a joke. What a. What is he? Who did he think he is? They started comparing me to Michael Scott in a bad way, which was, thank you, girls. I appreciate that because it was really hurtful. And I got in the car, and I'm being authentic. I cried. I got in the car with tears and just was like, I don't want to do this. I went home and told my wife I was out. I didn't want to do it anymore because it was just, like, the worst thing ever. So you overheard them and they didn't know. I was trying so hard to please all these people. I'm a middle child, pleaser by nature. Like I said, tmi. But it's ultimately one of those things that I left. I was just like, this is stupid. I am spending more. This is the moment. This is the next moment that changed my life. I just realized that no matter what I did in my business, it would never make up for what I didn't know about hiring great people. It is possible for anyone to develop a team that loves you more than you deserve. Maybe that's the wrong language. Here's what I'm trying to say.
I'm the same guy. Yeah, I was a different leader. But those people talking trash about me in 2012, I wasn't that different. The difference was the people in 2018. I'm telling you, it's everything. I'm telling you, it's profitability. I want you to be clear that the people side of your business is your business. This was so successful that the problem with hiring a dream team like this is that they have one thing they want to keep doing, which is growing. As much as we love our patients, it's the team we build.
The team is everything. It is the greatest gift. When we realize our purpose to build more leaders, it is everything for us.
