Use your dog's regular food as a high-value reward from a treat pouch, not a bowl. Say "yes" as a marker when the dog turns toward you on a long line, then reward immediately. Tap the leash gently if the dog doesn't respond right away.

Yes, absolutely. So when it comes to our recall training, we want to be able to find something which motivates our dogs. So the thing that we go to straight away is using our dog's food. So taking our dog's daily food allowance and not feeding that from the bowl, but feeding them from a treat pouch instead. Once we've got a dog food motivated, we're going to teach them a reward marker, so a word that means they've done the right thing. We use the word yes. And we're going to chuck them on a long line or a retractable leash, and we're going to use our recall command. Excuse me. Use our recall command, um, and once they turn around, we're going to say yes. If they don't turn around, we're going to tap them on the leash until they do, and then say yes and give them some food.
