Dog owners often assume problem behaviors like lunging will improve with age, but they usually get worse. A beagle that lunges at other dogs can become increasingly frustrated and withdrawn if the behavior isn't corrected early. Start proper training now instead of waiting.

John, he is maturing, so I keep figure just keep practicing. Common misconception is that things will get better with age for a lot of people. Nah, gets worse. Gets a lot worse. In fact, a lot of behaviors that are baked in by the time the dog hits seven eight months often will just get worse with the rehearsal. So if your beagle is already lunging at other dogs, even from a social sense, even from an over-social sense, they just want to get to the other dog, they want to play with it, they want to find out what it's about. Of course, that's going to create one, a lot of frustration, which could lead to an overspill. But likely it is, maybe he lunges into the wrong dog and the wrong dog nails him, and then he becomes really unsocial because of that incident. So my recommendation for you would be Yeah, get on to some training. Um, if you just keep practicing what you've been practicing so far— no, no offense, man, no disrespect at all— um, but obviously what you've been practicing so far hasn't fixed the lunging by the dogs. It's probably not going to fix the lunging going forward, so we need to find something that does.
