Aaron Jaxon Band Ep The World is Gonna Scratch us off its Back
The excerpt presents the full lyrics of Aaron Jaxon Band’s song “The World Is Gonna Scratch Us Off Its Back.” The piece blends surreal, whimsical imagery—such as a gorilla with a rose, a Pinocchio nose, rabbit‑ear head, and a president who is dead—with vivid narrative snapshots of a walk by a river on a cobblestone street, counting pennies, and drinking cheap wine. A recurring chorus repeats the line “the world’s gonna scratch us right off its back,” serving as a central refrain that suggests an inevitable, perhaps indifferent, force acting upon humanity. The verses juxtapose mundane details (lighter, turpentine, speed‑limit signs) with fantastical elements (a wonder, a Jew, a chimpanzee crystallized blue), creating a dream‑like tableau that explores themes of loss, absurdity, and the fleeting nature of existence. The lyrical tone oscillates between playful absurdity and a darker, reflective undercurrent, culminating in a haunting mantra that underscores the song’s existential mood.
