Aaron Jaxon shows a flatpicking drill in G major: pick one string, skip the next, pick the next, skip the next. Do it with downstrokes first, then upstrokes. Practice daily for faster, cleaner alternate picking.
Alright y'all, here's another one of my very favorite picking exercises, and it goes like this. So this idea is simple even though the execution of it is challenging. All I'm doing here is I'm holding a G chord and then I am doing alternate picking on each string while skipping a string like this. Once you get this done with a downstroke, try starting the whole thing with an upstroke. Practice this every single day along with the other exercises I've shown you, and I promise you'll see a big improvement in your picking technique. Alright, see you next time!
