Program a Zodiac Aqualink from Start to Finish

Jacob from Epool Supply walks through programming a Zodiac Aqualink controller from scratch using the web portal or app. You'll set up auxiliaries, color lights, one-touch scenes, variable-speed pump speeds, schedules for filters and in-floor systems, salt system settings, and password protection.

Hey guys, thanks for tuning in. It's Jacob here with Epool Supply. We're going to go over the entire programming of an Aqualink. This is from the web portal, from the iaqualink login, either from your app on your mobile device or if you go to www.iaqualink.com and you click on your device and it'll bring up this page on the web. So this is what I've done is I've gone to the web and done this. I've got actually three of these set up here, as you can see. So what we're going to do is the first one I'm going to show you just kind of a display of what happens. So when you log in, you're going to see your pool temp, you're going to see your air temp. We're in Phoenix, Arizona. So, yeah, it's a little hot out today. What you want to do first is click on your status. This is going to show you everything. Filter pumps on 1750 watts are 296 aqua pure set to 75%. Salt's a little low, so we're going to need to add salt and then help shows you everything as well what your revision is. We're going to change this later. So the pool builder usually installs this themselves. And so they're going to put for service call ABC Pool Company and their phone numbers. So you kind of have it always. But this is going to show you the statuses of everything. It's going to tell you all of the gnd equipment you have set up. It's going to tell you if there's any errors on any jand equipment setup. So if you, if your heater is not firing, it's going to tell you if, if your Aqualink is acting up, it's going to tell you. If your pump's not on, it's going to tell you. And then it's got two different pages of your pretty much settings for your Aqualink and your WI Fi. So RSSI is going to tell you your signal strength from your WI FI antenna to your router. 5 out of 5 is fantastic. So now that we have the basics down of the screen of the main screen, what we're going to do is I'm going to back out of there to my demo, which is going to say open, open, because I don't have thermostats set up yet. So what we're going to do is press menu. Menu is going to show you different menu options. You got schedules, customize program Group sub temp, system setup, set date, time, lockout, password set up here. First, we're going to start with system setup. First thing you want to do is come over here, press left and click clear memory. Clear memory. So let's go ahead and do that. The reasoning why we're going to clear memory, it kind of starts off fresh in case somebody else has programmed it. I know the factory likes to program things to test things out and make sure everything works before they do. They have a great quality control system. So they're always going to try this out first. They're going to put some programs in there. Sometimes they clear their memory, sometimes they don't. So it's always a good idea to start clearing the memory first. So let's go ahead and clear the memory. All right, so now that the memory is all cleared, what we're going to want to do is set up our auxiliaries first. So depending on your system. On my system I have an RSP, I have a PSRS8, so it's Pool Spa RS8, which means eight functions. Your filter pump counts as one and then you have one through seven. As you can see here, number three is missing because what I did is on your board. Dip switch number three. If you have a spa spillover, it automatically is going to label that as spillover and automatically turn valves. So your spillover enables. So we're going to start with auxiliary one. General. I mean you have so many keep going down, keep going up. I mean there's just so many different labels that they pre give you. If for some reason you don't like the labels that they give you, you can click custom label and then now you can type them yourself. So I'm going to put P pump and you'll see why I did that later. So P pump and then what I'm going to do is I all the next ones are pretty much going to be lights and I'll just kind of custom label those as well. So let's go jlight save. Next one, Lights, custom H Light save. We're going to go lights, custom label, P P light. Save, Lights custom label and D light. Save. And the bottom one, we're going to make our water feature. So we're just going to go here, click Water feature and let's go ahead and Aqua accent sounds really cool. So we're going to do that. Click select and we're going to click save. So now all of our auxiliaries are labeled. So if you actually go home other devices, this is going to show you a list of all the stuff that we just labeled. Now let's go back into the menu and set everything else up. So we just labeled our auxiliaries. I want to go down to color lights. Color lights, you have five options now, which is crazy. So Jandy LED are the new Jandy LEDs. Hayward color logics are the new Hayward LED. Color logics and Pentair Intellibrites are the newer style Pentair LED color changers. Pentair Samsar are the older style Pentair ones where it's got a color wheel and a few light bulbs inside. And Jandy Colors is the same thing. It's got six light bulbs inside and and a color wheel that kind of blends the colors together. So these bottom two are like the older style lights. I'd be surprised if anybody still has those out there. But most pools are going to get the top three if you have a color changing light. Again, if you have Savvy lights, Savvy makes a J series, H series and a Pantera series. So let's start with Jand LED watercolors. So I'm going to assign it to my J light and a JL will pop up here when you click it. So I'm going to click Save. I'm going to assign a Hayward light. See it's going to pop CL for Color Logic light and Pentair Intellibrite my P light. And then I'm going to click back ESP link what that is. It automatically kind of adjusts your system a couple hours. I don't have any programs yet, but pretty much what it does, it's like an auto energy saver. So like it's a seasonal adjust. So like when winter comes it'll kind of. You have a plus or minus couple hours button when it is enabled and what it'll do is kind of make it to where during the wintertime it'll minus two hour run time or plus two hour runtime during the summer. So it kind of energy. It's an automatic energy saver. It's pretty cool. Not a whole lot of people use them because there's the program A, Program B and also with the variable speed pump settings, you don't really need to adjust your pump pump speeds or settings anymore because they're so energy efficient. So next let's go to Dimmers. So if you have a pool light that dims, this is kind of cool. You can go to D light, that's my dimmable light and click save. So you just assigning what's what? Pretty much One touch setup. As you can see here in the bottom, those are all in one buttons. What it is is when you go to one touch setup so you can select the names of the. You have six one touches. So all off means if you click that button, everything's turning off Spa mode. What I've done with that one is so pretty much if you have an air blower, a jet pump, spa heater, you can, you can pretty much turn them all on with the click of one button. So One touch four, we're gonna go to day party. One Touch five, Night party. One touch six, let's make another all off. Let's go back. So set devices all off. So pretty much what you're doing, if you page down, everything should be off to where if you turn that on, everything's turning off in your entire system. Spa mode. What this is Spa heat and spa mode are both enabled. So the valves return and the spa will turn on and the heater will turn on clean mode. So on clean mode you're gonna turn your filter pump on Day party kind of neat. Or day party if you have like a water feature. So let's turn the water feature on. So say multiple water features. A spillover. So we want the spillover and the aqua accents on for water feature Night party. What we want to do is make that in all three light and water fall turn on. So I'm going to turn the aqua accents light, light, light. Oh, so hang on. We can set our dimmers, P light, H light and J light. So that kind of turns everything on. And we'll show you later what that looks like in the one touch. You know what, let's do it now. So if you go to onetouch, which is also on your iPhone, which we'll pull that up right now. So you have six different options of what you can do. So you can turn on spa mode. Spa mode items on Spa Spa Heat 102. Cool. So that turns everything on spa. So watch. Let's go to Night party. So now I just turned all those items on at once. Cool. So let's go back. So that's actually a good way. Look. As you can see, it turns everything on that you turned on. So now let's go back to one touch. Let's turn everything off. Everything just immediately turned off. Pretty neat. So let's go back to system setup. The next one is spa remote. So if you have a spa side remote, there's an eight functions bali spider spa link and a four function spa switch and you can do up to three on each system. So if you wanted to approach, because there's 1, 2, 3, 4 buttons on the 4 button. So you can label them spa, spa, heat, you can kind of assign them to whatever you want to. Eight function. I mean, you can do a lot with these things. I mean you can turn, you can put your whole system on that, on that remote. Those things are cool. If you have like a rental home and you want that just as your on and off controller for your people renting your house, it's a good idea sometimes. So the next one we're going to do is sprinkler setup. This is kind of getting phased out. This is a whole irrigation setup. So if you have an irrigation valves that you want to hook up, Jandy currently sells a device that you can connect to your aqua link board that will actually power up your sprinkler valves. I believe you can do eight valves, six valves. Sorry, wait, let's go down eight valves. Yep, eight valves on the system. But I think they're actually discontinuing in the sprinkler setup. So that might not be something we get too far into. Device runtime is pretty cool. So if you're worried about your light staying on all hours of the night, if somebody forgets to turn them off. So you can actually go click on the. Click on the light. These have a max runtime of five hours. So let's go like this. Let's label that five hours. So now what happens if somebody turns my light on at night? After five hours, it's automatically going to shut off. Maintain temp. This is the way that you want to. If you want to keep your spa on or hot all the time, or if you want to keep your pool hot all the time, you're going to want to turn this on. Because what's going to happen, it takes a sample every two hours of your pool heat and then it's going to turn the heater on if it needs to. So it's going to take a sample after a few minutes. If it's still at that same heat, it's going to turn off it. If it's too low, it's going to turn that heater on. And when your water gets to whatever temperature it needs to be, then it's going to kick off. It's a pretty cool idea. It's an energy saver for gas and electric. So it's a good idea to have if you're going to keep your pool hot all the time. RS InterLink that's what you're going to use. If you're going to connect multiple Aqualinks to one Aqualink, it can get overwhelming. I'd probably recommend having a service professional maybe install this part for you. There's a separate device that has to be installed. One wiring in the whole nine yards has to be done. Freeze protection. What we're going to do is P pump. So everything that you're worried that's gonna be damaged in a freeze, I would strongly recommend that you turn them on with freeze protection. So what's gonna happen when you freeze temp when the temperature outside reaches 38 degrees, what's gonna happen is all these devices will automatically turn on just to prevent it from freezing over and pipes to freeze and burst and break and the whole nine yards. So let's go over. Heat pump, your heat pump. If you have a heat pump installed, you can completely control it. Heat mode versus chill mode. Did you select proper heat cool mode at heat pump? Yes. So it takes a little bit of both programming at the heat pump in here, but it's pretty neat. So we're going to take it back to heat so you can control your complete heat pump from the Aqualink as well. Heat pump priority. What this means is that if you're going to turn your temperature on, it's going to turn the heat pump on first before it turns the gas heater on and vice versa. So if you have heat pump priority disabled, it's going to turn your gas heater on to reach the temperature and the heat pump will take over from there. Solar priority. Just the opposite. Rather than the heat pump, the solar will be the priority. So try to heat through solar before the gas turns on. Assign JVAs. You have Jandy valve actuators that control different aspects. So pretty much it's an automated valve that turns something. Your intake and your return are always going to be used. If you have a spa system, a combo spa system. So what it does is when you press spa mode on your Aqua link, your suction valve and your return valve for your spawn pool are both going to turn the same time. And that's what your intake and return is. Solar. If you have solar system, this will pop in there and it's going to say use and then cleaner. What you're going to do with your cleaner is that's just another one that you can label if you want to. So what I'm going to do, my Aqua accents, I'm going to label those on here. So pretty much if my Aqua accents are on A one pump system. I can put a genie valve actuator on there to where if I turn them on, everything's going to turn automatically and kind of work itself out automatically. Pretty neat dusk setup. This is my favorite feature of the Aquilane. I have my lights running. If you have landscape, lighting, anything running every single night, you can have them automatically turn down, turn on at sunset. So if I'm going to enable this, you can adjust your city and time zone. So let's say we're in Honolulu, Which would be Hawaii. You turn your time zone plus what city, click save. It's going to tell you your sunset time. And this adjusts every single day. It's pretty neat how they've done this. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to adjust my off time because I'm on my lights to run until 2 o' clock in the morning and I'm going to set my devices. I'm going to want my P light, H light and my J light all to turn on automatically at sunset, which tonight's gonna be 8:30 or 8:13. I apologize. So now all off time. So if you want your equipment to turn off every single day at a certain time, let's go ahead and make it 3am. They can't do it by the minute. So it's 3am Everything will turn off. So it kind of resets the system. Say it's great for a rental house if you have a jet pump or air blower. You didn't do the five hour timeout thing. It'll just turn everything off at one time. And then if there's set schedules or programs, those will override though everything will turn off. But they'll turn right back on if there's an automated program. So now air temp your front screen. If you don't want to see your air temp anymore, you can just disable it. We'll disable it. Why not Temperature calibrate. So you get your pool and your spa. So say like your pool temperature, it's reading off. Let's go my other aqua link real quick so I can show you that system setup. Temp calibrate. So see how My pool is 93 degrees. For some reason you think that's off and you want it to be more accurate. You can actually adjust it to what? Say you have a digital thermometer that you put in the water. And say this is the real temperature. You can adjust it to up or down however many degrees you think is necessary. So let's Go back degrees. If you're for some reason you're in Canada or anywhere that takes Celsius, change it to Celsius or change it back to Fahrenheit. Sorry, we skipped one. Product info. This is where you can change the name of your product. So you can go just Jandy. This is where you can put your service company's name in and you can change their phone number. Let's go over one more in floor. This is my favorite one. Do not use this if you do not have an elaborate inflow system that takes two valves. What this does is if you have two separate in floor valves with an automatic Janney valve actuator, this is going to automatically turn that Jandy valve on the solar socket every 15 minutes. So pretty much what it's going to do if you have one set like a five port on one side and a five port on the other side with one pipe going to both every 15 minutes is going to go from the say the left one to the right one, left one to the right every 15 minutes. If this is enabled. Do not click this button. If you just have an in floor system. So this is pretty much built for extremely elaborate in floor systems that are running off of one pump clear memory. We already went over that. That's going to completely wipe your entire Aqualink cancel delay. So if there's like a heat delay, you can just click this button and it'll just cancel it. Chemlink. Chemlink. Jani currently this time is not making them, but I heard they're going to redesign them. Chemlink. They're pretty cool. I mean, you have an automatic acid feeder, chlorine feeder that hooks into the Aqua link. You can completely control the ph orp, any of that through the Aqualink. It's pretty neat. Cover pools. If you have an automated cover, you can open and close your cover from here. Smart JVAs. Jandy has this kind of a new JVA system out where you can kind of cam them digitally rather than taking out the COVID and assigning them. So like you can see, you can assign a smart jab eight to an auxiliary. Oh, sorry. Let's go ahead and assign it to jlight. Why not? Let's adjust it. So we want to adjust it to where the JVA will turn 30, 35% every time that you press it. That's it. And then about Zodiac. So let's go back. There's one that I missed right here or one kind of column. So pump lockout right here. What this is, is when you press that spa button, it's going to turn your pump off and then turn the valves. If you don't want to do that. If you want to continually run the system while the valves are turning, then disable that. But if you're. It's a lot more. It's a safer aspect to have it enabled because it'll turn the pump off, then turn the valves. Rather than say if the valves go bad or something, it's just going to deadhead your system. But I would keep it enabled. Daylight savings time. If you don't want daylight savings time to automatically happen in your zone, click disable. So that's how we set up the Aqualink. So now let's go back to the menu. Actually, we forgot one big one. Variable speed setup. So what you can do is Variable speed setup is you can choose your pump. We have e pump, IntelliFlow VS or IntelliFlow VF. So our first pump is going to be an E pump, a Jandy E pump. Our second pump is going to be Intelliflow which is made by Pentair so application. Our very first one is going to be our filtration pump. And our second one is going to be our aux pump. So you can set your minimum and maximum ratings, you can set your priming speed. I like to set priming speeds high. And then click save. It's going to back you up. And now you got to back go back in. Now you can set your speeds up. So if you go to epump filtration so you can actually set the names pool heat, you can change the names down to fan. I mean you can do anything you want to. You can change the speeds. So if I want my pool heat every time I pool heats, I want that thing to set to 3000 rpms cool in floor system speed 3. So watch this. I can assign a speed to an auxiliary too. So if I assign this speed to auxiliary seven, my Aqua accents. So every time I turn my Aqua accents on that JVA is going to turn because we set that up in the JVA menu. And now it's going to automatically set the speed of the accents to the 2,750 RPMs. It's a pretty cool feature. So when you're done there, you want to Click Save Teleflow VS Speed Setup, go down to IntelliFlow. Same exact thing. You can even make it to where you can run it as a one speed system. So let's take speed number seven and assign it to auxiliary number one, which is our Intelliflow. Our P pump, which is pentair. So every time you click that P pump button, it's automatically gonna turn that speed on. So now let's go back to menu. Let's schedule these things. So what you want to do, you have a blank slate here. Add filter pump. Select what this does on Aqualinks. These are a little different than most of the other automation programming schedules for other companies out there. Filter pump is going to turn the pump on and also automatically adjust it to speed number one if there's a variable speed pump. So you do not ever need to program a speed number one for a filtration pump on any Aqualink out there. So what you're going to want to do is filter pump. I'm going to have my start time 9am let's do 9pm 9pm to stop time 9am and save. And then I'm gonna also want my Aqua or let's do a high speed an in floor speed. So I'm gonna go to variable speed 1 because variable speed 1 is my E pump and I'm gonna want my in floor system. My in floor speed. I should say to run every night as well. So you have to have both running filter pump turns on the pump goes to low speed. In floor speed is gonna overrule the lower speed. So on Aqualinx the higher speed always wins. So what we're going to do is we're going to program this thing start time from 9pm stop time to 3am so now what's going to happen is our pump is going to turn on at 9pm and kick to in floor because in floor is a higher speed. At 3am it's going to go down to low speed because this filter pump and low speed runs till 9am so so from 3 o' clock to 9am we're going to get a low speed. But from 9 to 3am we're going to get a high speed. So let's click save. And please also remember if you only want your system to run certain days, you can just come over here and click so watch. Let's go ahead, edit. I only want my system to run Wednesday. Let's do Tuesday or let's do weekends. Why not save weekends? That's when my pumps go or my in floor system is going to run. So now during the week my system's going to my system going to run low speed from 9pm to 9am and on the weekend I'm going to have a six hour in floor system during that filter pump program. So now let's go ahead and add another schedule. Let's add a schedule for. The other pump. So P Pump select so ppump. Since we automatically assigned a speed to turn this on, you can literally just do a start time, stop time or whatever you think is necessary. So four o', clock, I want my. Let's just pretend it's a water feature. I want my waterfall to run every day from 4 o' clock to 5 o'. Clock. Done. Save. Alright, so now once we're done with our scheduling, we're going to go to menu. And then so if your system has an aqua or an Aqua Pure, which is a salt system, let's go to our number two. Sorry. So you can set your salt system by clicking this button. Your percentage, your boost, you can boost your setup. So if you want your salt system to run 80%, you can go change this to 80% and all of a sudden your salt system is running a little bit hotter. A little more chlorine is being generated inside your pool. So let's go back to our demo. Nope, that's not our demo. This one's our demo. Program group. We have group A and group B. So what you can do is we just program group A. Group B is if you have a winterizing schedule. So if you want to only run group A, let's say from April to September and then group B you want from September to April, you can do that and it'll auto switch if you want it to. And you can choose the start date for group A and group B. It's a really cool thing, especially if you winterize your pool or if you don't want your pool to run as long in the winter. Lockout Password. So pretty much what you can do, you can lock out or password protect all of your devices if you want to. So you can even choose a certain. So if you want, if you don't want anybody to turn your spa heat on you, password protect it and you can change your password right here. So what happens is if somebody turns that spa heat on, they're going to ask what is your password? It's good for children or rentals. So let's go ahead and go back home. So now let's kind of test everything out that we have. So if we go to other devices. So let's go ahead and do P pump. Let's go ahead and turn our jandy light on. It's going to ask us what color. So I'm going to go to Alpine white. So now that we're back here at this menu. So you can do the same thing with your Hayward lights. So see how the lights change? So Hayward has their own color series, and then Pentair has their own color series. So now let's go to D light. We made that our dimmable light. So let's go ahead and turn that on. This is kind of cool. You can set Your dimmer in 25% increments, and it dims your pool lights if you have a dimmable pool light. I really like that feature. It's kind of cool. Then back to our one touch. So we can turn everything on or turn everything off and we're all done. We can just easily turn everything off there by clicking that button and then everything should be off. Oh, I didn't click it. Oh, there we go. So that is how you program your Aqualink from start to finish. I hope the overview helped. If you you have any questions, please feel free to message us or contact us at e Pool Supply. Have a great day. Thank you for subscribing.
