In this short talk, Adam Spector, co‑founder of LiftIgniter, shares five hard‑earned lessons he wishes he’d known before launching his startup. He explains that startups demand an all‑consuming level of dedication and that only a small fraction achieve massive success, so founders must genuinely love what they do. He stresses the importance of truly loving the business itself, getting enough sleep to maintain clear thinking and energy for the team, and periodically stepping outside the usual routine—reading and learning new things—to spark creative ideas that can benefit the company. The advice blends realistic expectations with personal well‑being and creative stimulation for sustainable entrepreneurship.

Hey, I'm Adam from LiftIgniter, and the 5 things that people— I wish people had told me before I started and co-founded LiftIgniter was number 1, startups are super all-consuming. There's just nothing you can do about it. There's a huge amount of work and you have to be utterly dedicated to it. Number 2 is that frankly only a few people make it really big, so you really have to love what what you're doing. you're doing no matter what. 3 is really truly love your business in a big way. You just kind of have to, to let it be all-consuming and let yourself be successful. You utterly have to love the business that you're doing. 4, always remember to get sleep because the fact is your company, your employees, your customers, all of them are relying on you to do a great job. And if you Part of doing that great job is about actually having sleep and coming into the office with energy and excitement and being able to think clearly. So try to get some sleep, even though of course it contradicts being able to do, you know, be all-consuming and work 24/7 on your startup. And then number 4, or number 5, sorry, is do something different every once in a while. Try to read different things, learn different things, because it gives you ideas and the ability to think creatively about different sorts of things. things that will actually help your business be successful. So I'm Adam, with Start Garage, right here in our startup in San Francisco. Thanks so much. Thanks, Adam.
