Behind The Scenes Of My Three Hour Funnel
23 Jun 2016 · 13 min
In this solo episode of the Marketing Your Car podcast, Russell Brunson walks listeners through how he built a rapid‑growth Snapchat funnel in under three hours. He begins by describing his initial curiosity about Snapchat, the epiphany he had after seeing Brandon and Kailyn generate 20,000 views per snap, and his decision to create an educational landing page (snapfunnels.com) to teach others how to follow him. Russell then details the step‑by‑step process he used: (1) arranging a 30‑minute Google Hangout with Brandon and Kailyn to deliver a training video, (2) embedding that video on the landing page as the core opt‑in offer, (3) adding a simple 1‑2‑3 funnel that directs visitors to follow his Snapchat, and (4) integrating UpViral’s share‑widget to incentivize users to share the page on social platforms in exchange for a “share funnel” link that leads into ClickFunnels. He explains how he filmed his own Snapchat journey to the office, added pattern‑interrupt edits, and posted the compiled video on YouTube to drive traffic. Within a few hours the campaign generated over 1,000 opt‑ins and began viral growth without additional promotion. Russell then abstracts the method, urging listeners to apply the same epiphany‑training‑funnel‑viral framework to any business channel—affiliate programs, podcasts, blogs, etc. He closes by promoting upcoming launches (Biohacking Secrets, FunnelSwag) and reminding listeners to subscribe to his daily Periscope Quickie Show and the Marketing Your Car email list.

Hey everyone, good morning, good morning, good morning. I'm excited to be with you here for longer than 10 seconds on a special edition of Marketing in Your Car. Welcome to the Marketing in Your Car podcast where you can increase your traffic, conversions, and sales in just 10 minutes a day. And now here's your host, Russell Brunson. Hey everyone, so yes, yes, I've been going a little Snapchat crazy for the last little bit. I'm excited to be on on a platform where I can talk to you for longer than 10 seconds. Anyway, as you guys know, I got intro'd to Snapchat a little while ago, a couple days ago, and wanted to try it out. Did the first day, thought it was really fun. Thought it was actually a good platform for me, especially with like, next week we got some crazy stuff. Next week we're flying out, Tai Lopez is doing a webinar for us. I'm flying out, we're hanging out at the mansion for a day to just kinda get some people excited about that webinar, which will be cool. And then after that we're going and Marcus Lemonis is having us on The Profit. Ah, crazy! Crazy, crazy, crazy. So we are gonna be filming part, I'm gonna be in the episode building funnels for people. So we are going mainstream. Funnels are becoming mainstream, which is cool. And a bunch of other cool things. And I'm like, how do you show that to people? I can talk about it post-production in here in Marking Your Car, which is fun. I can go into more details and share that kind of cool stuff. But how do I take you behind the scenes, like snap by snap? And so we're gonna be Snapchatting the crap out of that trip along with everything else we're doing. So anyway, it's worth trying to figure out Snapchat, if nothing else, to see behind the scenes of next week, which is gonna be amazing. So I think I found out if you go to snapchat.com/add, add, /RussellBrunson, one word, no spaces, snapchat.com/add/russellbrunson, I think it adds you directly or faster or something. So anyway, but alright, so this is kind of the back behind the scenes. So thought Snapchat was cool, did it for Snap, had one person watch it, I'm like, this sucks, how do you get people? So I gotta figure out a way to get people, right? So I was like, oh, what if I just make an, create a page that educates them on why they should, why they should be, following me and snapping and all that kind of stuff, right? So I create this page, it kind of goes through what to do and how to do it and all that kind of stuff, which was kind of cool, right? So I started promoting that a little bit and we got a little bit of traction by people who already knew what Snapchat was and they jumped on, that was kind of cool. But then it just kind of died real fast. I was like, ugh, that was a lot of work for like, the juice was not worth the squeeze. Like now I got 12 people watching my snaps, that's not any cooler. And I was like, how do we grow this? And so as I'm asking myself this question, I want you guys thinking about this for your businesses as well. From a podcasting standpoint, from affiliate program, from a blog, from a Facebook, whatever it is. For me, the question in my head was how do I grow Snapchat faster? Again, I think the process I'm going to walk you guys through is the same process I would be going through if I was asking any of the other questions. How do I grow my affiliate program? How do I grow my podcast? How do I blah, blah, blah, blah, blah? That's kind of the thought. What I did is I I started going back and this is, man, we're jumping all over the place for the faithful followers of Marking Your Car. So if you jump back to the episode where I talked about epiphany bridge, right? So I started thinking about like, what gave me my epiphany to want to actually care about Snapchat? And I was like, well, for me, it was cool, it was just a couple days ago, I met Brandon and Kailyn, they showed Snapchat, I was like, this is cool, and they showed me how they get like 20,000 people per snap to watch this thing. I'm like, dang. Like, they put in a year's worth of effort but now they're getting 20,000 views every time they click a button, which is nuts. I don't know any other platform you can do that on. Man, you could be on infomercials and you can't get 10-second, you can't get 20,000 people to watch at the click of a button. And they get like 30 a day, 20,000 people watch. It's pretty cool, right? So that was kinda my big epiphany. It was just like, wow, if I could build it up, that'd be awesome. And then I was like, well, the only reason why I'm even on Snapchat is because now I understand the benefit of it. I'm gonna try Snapchat. So I wanna see what other people are doing so I can understand how they're doing it and how they're engaging. And I wanna follow cool people. So I started following people. And now it's funny, I log into Snapchat chat like probably 50 times a day, like refreshing, trying to see if like the few people I'm following have posted anything. And I'm annoyed when they haven't. I'm like, crap, this is a cool platform because I want to be annoyed. Like when I'm, this is probably more than you want to know, when I'm going to the bathroom, I want to like see a bunch of snaps from a few people that I'm following. Like if they haven't posted something, I'm like annoyed. Like dude, wake up, you guys. Like do something funny. Like you need to entertain me now. And so I was like, crap, this is kinda cool. Doing stuff and people during their bathroom breaks or when they're, I don't know, whenever people Snapchat, they can catch up on all the weirdness that we're doing and I was like, this is a cool platform. So I was like, I need to take people through the same epiphany I had. And so we'd set up snapfunnels.com, that's where my page was initially, just telling them how to follow me, but I was like, let's step back, like, what if I could get Brandon and Katelyn to give everyone the same epiphany they gave me? So that was my first thought, I'm like, cool. So this is like literally yesterday morning and so then I Vox those guys, I'm like, hey, can I interview you for like 30 minutes, about Snapchat and they're like, we're about to jump on a plane, we can't really do it but unless we do it like this time. I'm like, sweet, let's do it. We'll do a Google Hangout, we'll jump on and I'll just talk to you guys for 30 minutes about Snapchat to give everybody the same epiphany I had. So that was step number 1, right? Step number 2 is I'm about to leave my house and come to the office, I'm like, well how am I gonna get people to actually want to register for the, to watch this training? I was like, I gotta do something different and unique and fun. So I was like, what if I Snapchat me selling Snapchat and telling about the epiphany I had with Snapchat and then like introducing them people that gave me that epiphany, right? So I'm like weaving like 20 different marketing things into one. I hope you guys are seeing this, right? So then I'm like, well, what am I gonna Snapchat? And I was like, well, you know, with videos what does really, really well is if you're taking somebody on a journey, right? If you're just like you in your office like, hi, this is Russell, I'm at my office, let's talk about something. Like, it's not nearly as powerful as like you starting somewhere and taking somebody on a journey and a process with you, right? It's kinda like you're taking them on this whole epiphany with you. So I was like, well, I'm about to go to the office, what if I like take them on this journey while I'm leaving my house, I'm going to the office, I'm talking to Brandon and Kailyn, you guys are kind of going on this journey with me and opt in, you're gonna see the same conversation I'm about to have, right? And so that's what I did. So I got Snapchat and I started Snapchatting my whole journey. So like me putting my backpack on, walking out of my house and then like getting in the garage and I decide do I take the Corvette or do I take the bike? And I was like, the bike's way funnier so I took the bike, right? And it's me like driving my bike while I'm Snapchatting this message and then like I'm like out of wind and it keeps cutting me off 'cause I only get 10 seconds. So instead of like trying be all polished. I was like playing off that, like, let me complain like 5 times about how short these things are. And then, and then, so I'm taking them on this journey, then I get to the office and I go into the office and I go to my desk and I share what they're gonna learn and I show pictures of Kaelin with her ripped 6-pack abs to like make people wanna like hear what she's gotta say. And then, and so I create this whole video of like, I don't know, 20 or 30 like 10-second Snapchats. I try to make it fun and entertaining. I had my brother edit one of them upside down 'cause I wanted to pattern interrupt 'cause there's like 5 5 shots in a row of me riding my bike and it just got kind of boring so I'm like, even though it's 10 seconds at a time, I'm like flip it upside down so that way it's just a pattern interrupt so they don't get bored during this, the 4 or 5 sections of me riding my bike and anyway, made this video like honestly on my ride to the office, had my brother edit it, flip that thing around and then we posted it on YouTube and then I made snapfunnels.com and posted that Snapchat video of me Snapchatting talking about Snapchat with an opt-in box Next page then, I had just a really simple process, 1, 2, 3. Step number 1, watch the training from Brandon and Katelyn. So as soon as we did the Google Hangout, then I put the embed code on that page. You'll notice like we even, like Google Hangout dropped like 2 or 3 times, I didn't edit anything, 'cause I was like, ah, I don't wanna, I just wanna go fast, and hopefully show people that you don't have to be so polished to make things cool. So we did that, and step 2 is like, hey, go to this page now to follow me. So then takes them to the page I created the day earlier, that walks them through how to find me, how to follow me, how to watch my videos, my snaps, or my story, or whatever. I'm still learning the terminology. And then step 3 was like, hey, you guys should share SnapFunnels with your audience because if you can educate them on how to do this, then they'll be more likely to follow you as well. So what I'm gonna do is, if you share snapfunnels.com, then we will give you a share funnel link to this funnel and then you can use this funnel for your marketing. And then I used a script I've been looking at for the last month or so, I thought it was I always wanted to use it. It's called UpViral. And it just gives a little widget you put on your page that says like, hey, share this. When you share it, you earn points and things like that. And so, it's pretty awesome. So we had people going and they, to get the share funnel, you gotta share on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, I think, or something like that. So they share it, boom, boom, boom. After they shared all 3 places, then it unlocks and emails them the share funnel link to that funnel. And now that they've got that, which puts people into ClickFunnels if they're not already ClickFunnels members, which is cool. And so we did that whole campaign, like by lunchtime it was all done. Busted out ClickFunnels, got it done, posted on Facebook, and we started watching it grow. Like instantly it started growing, which was cool because like I had a meeting right after that, so I wasn't able to like promote it or anything. I just posted on Facebook, people started sharing it and opting in and sharing it, new people opted in and it started like virally growing on its own. It was crazy. So then last night, finally before I left, I like emailed the ClickFunnels list saying, hey, here's the Snapchat funnel, go get it for free, so they could go do that, and then I emailed my list, just talking about the title, which is How to Ethically Build a Cult Following in Snapchat. And anyway, it's been cool. So it's been less than 24 hours since we had the idea. We've had, I don't know the exact numbers, over 1,000 people have opted in. It's growing. People are watching my snaps. It's starting to grow really, really fast now, and it's exciting, right? So why do I share that with you? Well, one is 'cause I was kinda recapping in my head, which helps me to get it out and realize kinda what we did. Number two, that same process you guys can use for anything, right? Think about why you started your affiliate program. Think about why you started your podcast, why you started your blog, right? What was the epiphany you got? Alright, create a training video giving people that epiphany and then create a funnel that gets them to the training video which then gets them to subscribe to your blog which then gets them blogging because if they're blogging they'll be more likely to read your blog, right? People who write blogs read blogs, okay? I don't write a blog so I don't read a blog, right? I only Snapchat because now I Snapchat. So educate people on what you want them to do how to do that thing that you're now doing, and then in the process teach them to consume your part of it. And then throw in a viral campaign to make it a little viral and see what happens. So there you go. Oh, and also by the way, I could've named this like Snapchat Cult Secrets, but I'm the funnel guy, right? I talked about this 3 or 4 episodes ago, like funnels has become our thing, and so I called it SnapFunnels. Like, what's that got to do with funnels? I don't know. Snapchat, there's funnels, things like that. So anyways, being consistent with the branding. Anyway, I hope that one little campaign took us, you know, 3 or 4 hours to put the whole thing together, turned out amazing. And it was all just pieces of all the stuff we've been sharing through the podcast. So I hope you guys are picking up the gold we're dropping, because it's a powerful strategy for anyone to build their following. So use it, abuse it. I will be using it and abusing it more. My guess, I'm hoping Dave Woodward, who runs our affiliate and our business stuff, is listening to this. Dave, let's do this for the affiliate program stuff. I have a really cool epiphany story of how we launched our affiliate program. So boom, me and Dave are doing that. It's done and done and happening. So that's exciting. We should do it for our podcast, I mean, a lot of different ways. Maybe we'll do podcast funnels. Actually, I'm totally doing that. It's coming. Coming soon to a funnel near you. So anyway, appreciate y'all, have an amazing day. I'm at the office, time to launch Biohacking Secrets. It's going live today. And also FunnelSwag.com's going live today, so we got two cool things happening, so I'm gonna go promote the crap out of both of them. So appreciate y'all, have a great day, and we'll talk soon.
