Russell Brunson describes feeling off despite good circumstances, then working with three coaches to uncover hidden frustrations and limiting beliefs. He compares coaching to how elite athletes get instant feedback after every match, arguing most people skip this step. He recommends finding coaches with real-world experience and budgeting for areas where you feel stuck.

Welcome to Marketing in Your Car, the podcast for funnel hackers everywhere. You're now part of a small group of underground entrepreneurs who are trying to change the world through the products and the services that we believe in. But because we don't rely on venture capitalists, we don't have financial safety nets. So we have to do things differently. We have to do things smarter. We do that through an art and a science we call funnel hacking. This podcast will give you a glimpse at the daily life of a funnel hacker. So let's get started. Hey everyone, this is Russell Brunson. Good morning, or good afternoon, or good evening, depending wherever you are at. I hope you are doing awesome today. I was up late last night. I went to, I worked till about 3 in the morning, which was really fun actually. I have not done that in a long time. But then I was like getting delirious. I'm like, ah, I gotta go to bed. So I went to bed and then I had a call with Tara, one of my coaches, at 6 AM. So I had 3 hours of sleep. I was up, did my coaching call with her, which was really awesome as always. And then I got the kids out the door and then passed back out for 2 hours. Now I'm back up and I'm heading in It's a beautiful day, just, you know, sunny here, leaves are falling, I'm wearing shorts and flip-flops. It's a little bit cooler, it's just kinda, it's just nice. Last night we stayed up late with the kids playing Wolf in the Graveyard, running around outside, and we had, if you watched me on Snapchat, we had a bird, the kids were taking pumpkins out to the front porch, it was like at 9:30 at night, and we opened the door and this bird, huge bird, my kids were like, "Dad, there's a bat!" And then it was a bird, flew into our house. It went nuts. Took me 20 minutes to catch it and get it back outside and it was insane. So we, the last 24 hours or 12 hours I guess has been pretty awesome. So that's what's been happening today. Just heading in now for a fun day. I was just thinking about, if you guys remember a couple weeks ago I was talking to you guys about hiring coaches and like trying to figure out the parts in your life that you're not 100% happy with and like figuring out why. Like why am I not feeling good? And then trying to find a coach to help you work through for all those things, right? Like Sunday, for example, some reason Sunday, and I kind of know the reasons, but Sunday I was like, I was not in a good mood. And I remember I was sitting there in the backyard after church, everything, after dinner, sitting like in this chair watching my kids play. And I was like trying to feel like, why do I not feel good? Like physically I feel fine, I'm not sore, I'm kind of tired, but I'm like trying to like know, like be very aware and like, why am I not feeling good? Like what are the reasons? Like there's something bugging me and my mind's gonna try to like hide it so it's not there. But what are the actual things? So I started trying to think through and like what was frustrating me. And so trying to become I'm very aware of it. And then, and so that was one thing. And then from there, and that was just Sunday, but then again on top of that I've been working with different coaches in different parts of my life and different aspects and stuff like that. And so it was kinda cool, so my call with Tara today was like all about like things I'm frustrated by and we went on a whole different direction than we've ever been before and like it opened up this whole new world of like me understanding just my relationships with other people and why, some are really good for me and why some are not so good for me. And just anyway, it was really, really cool. And then on the other side of that, one of my other friends, one of our inner circle members, his name's Joseph and he does hypnosis stuff and he's awesome. Anyway, he started these things where he does like custom hypnosis tracks. And so he asked me, he's like, would you like me to build a custom hypnosis track for you? I was like, are you kidding me? Of course I would, that'd be amazing. So he sent me over a list of all these different questions, right? And it was kinda cool, it was like basically like a wishlist of like what are your limiting beliefs, beliefs are holding you back? What are the things you wish, like the beliefs you wish you did have? And what are this and that? And so like I spent last night, probably 2 o'clock in the morning, 2 or 3 in the morning, writing all these things out and like creating this thing. So he's going back now and building this like custom hypnosis track that I can listen to at night to help me to break my false beliefs and strengthen the beliefs that I want, that I want and I need and things like that. And it's like, oh, so, so cool. And so I just want to kind of come back and re-stress and re-emphasize to you guys how how cool it is to try to step back and be aware of like what you're feeling and why you're feeling it. And then, you know, for some reason, us as humans, we don't like— I don't know what the word— like, we don't like— I'm gonna use the word counseling because it has a negative connotation. We don't like counseling. So because we don't like counseling, we fight everything else, right? Think about in sports. Like, when I was wrestling, I always had coaches around me, and so every match, from a match that we had done, I'd step off the match immediately after my performance, and I have a coach who would say, "Look, you did this, this, and this that were great, but I noticed that you're stepping far with this leg, or you're leading with your arm, or your elbow's flaring up," or just the little things that I was doing. I'm like, "Oh." Right in the moment when it happened, I get this immediate coaching thing so that I know that. I'm like, "Okay, so I gotta remember that next time is to not do that." The next match happens, and then same thing. Same thing right after the match. Second the match is over, it's like, okay, boom, this, this, and this. This is what I'm noticing, this is where you're leaning, this is what you're doing. And so it was this constant coaching process every single match, match in and match out. And I have tournaments where I'd have, we'd do a freestyle and Greco tournament on the same day sometimes, and we'd end up having, man, 15, 16 different matches. And so 15, 16 matches, that's 15, 16 times throughout the day where I'm getting coached on like the little things. And like every time you get better and better and better and better, right? And for some reason in the real world, like we don't do that. Like we do something, we get frustrated, we try to drown our problems in whatever, you know, whatever thing we use. Some people it's drugs, some people it's alcohol, some people it's TVs, some people it's food. Everyone's got their thing but we try to drown it, we like hide it. And I think like how much that doesn't serve us. And especially when there's people, there's some amazing people out there that can help us with all these different problems we have, right? Different issues. It's funny, in the inner circle, one of my coaches, her name is Mandy Keen now, she got married. But Mandy was, she was like one of my wife and I coaches right after we went through the Tony Robbins stuff. She lived here locally in Boise and she'd done some work for our company in the past. We hired her to be like a coach for both me and her. And it was awesome, like just the insights we got from her, like from someone outside's perspective looking in and these little tweaks and these changes and how awesome that was. And so we brought her in the Inner Circle. So right now it's been interesting, like, you know, most people come in the Inner Circle 'cause they've got marketing and sales problems, right? Or they wanna scale things and they come and they wanna work with me, but I think, I don't wanna tell her or anybody this, but I think a lot of times people get more value from what she's bringing. She's doing coaching calls with them each week and like figuring out the limiting beliefs, what's keeping them from it, and constantly coaching and pushing through and tweaking and changing, like this progression that's happening within the Inner Circle. And it's funny, like when people clear out these beliefs, they don't have to fix their marketing, they just have to fix the things that are holding them back, and then their marketing and everything else starts working. And so I just wanna kind of replug this for all of you guys, is get better at noticing in the moment how you're feeling. Like I said, on Sunday I'm sitting there, I'm like, why am I not feeling good? Something's messing with me 'cause I should feel awesome. I'm watching my kids, it's a beautiful day, it's Sunday, everything should be awesome. Why am I not feeling good? I'm trying to figure out what are those reasons. Just like if I had a coach there, right? If I got off from a wrestling match and I lost, I'm not gonna go hide in the bleachers and try to think I'm too good for a coach. No, I'm gonna be like, coach, what did I do? You can see a lot better what I'm doing. He's like, dude, your elbow is out every time you're shooting. Really? Every time, yep. So I pull my elbow in, next time I shoot, that problem's gone and I win the next match, right? It's like we need to be doing those things more often for ourselves. And so sometimes you don't have a coach, or at least in life typically you don't have a coach following you around all the time watching you and like every day like, ah, you shouldn't have done that. And so part of that's gotta be on us. It's gotta be us slowing down, stopping, and then saying like, okay, why do I feel this way? Something's messed up. I should not feel this way right now. I should be feeling good and I'm not. So why? And think about it and figure out what those things are. And it's probably tied to one of a few things, right? It's probably tied to a relationship, maybe multiple relationships. It could be tied to finances. It's tied to something, right? And so figure out what it is that's causing that, the incongruency that's not making you feel good. And then, you know, one way is to go try to figure it out on your own, but I think a smarter way is find someone who can help you with that. And it's not a bad thing, okay? I didn't become an awesome wrestler because I went through this bad thing where I had a coach help me. Like, it was so embarrassing. I don't want my coach, you know, I don't wanna know I had a coach. Like, no dude, like coaches are awesome. It's good. There's business coaches, there's life coaches, there's health coaches, there's all those kind of things. And you know, I've been lucky enough in my life to have access to a lot of coaches. And I think that for you guys, I would dedicate part of your budget towards that. And I would look at like, where's the area you're struggling with the most right now? And find a coach to help fulfill that piece of it. And if it has anything to do with making money or mindset, now you can use the Inner Circle 'cause you got Mandy and me. No, but in all seriousness, like, there's great people out there and find someone. Now there's also bad people out there. I'm gonna pick some fights today. I would say like, Oh man. So I would say like don't go like the traditional routes. I have so little faith in traditional routes. Don't go to a real marriage counselor. Go find the person who's written books and spoken on stage and changed people's lives and go find them. Anyway, that's kind of my thoughts. Find the people that are in the trenches doing it in masses because they get a lot more info and intel and insights than a person who learned in school. I said it there, I just said it. Okay, I'll leave it there. Yeah, I went to a traditional counselor for a while, and right now, like, almost everything we went through hurt more than it helped. So find people that you respect, that you're seeing, you know, like, yeah, find someone that you can look in and see what they're doing for other people. And do it that way. Anyway, that's what I got. I'm in the office, it's like noon, I gotta get to work. So appreciate you guys, have an amazing day. And we'll talk to you guys all again soon.
