30 Sept 2015 · 9 min
Russell Brunson records a late-night monologue two days into six straight high-ticket events, describing the exhaustion of running ClickFunnels while scaling his DotCom Secrets coaching business. He wrestles with whether to keep coaching or focus only on software, and credits the Funnel Catcher framework with forcing him to think deeper. He ends by saying burnout is worth it when you see client transformations.

Hey everyone, this is Russell Brunson and welcome to a midnight Marketing in Your Car. Welcome to the Marketing in Your Car podcast where you can increase your traffic, conversions, and sales in just 10 minutes a day. And now here's your host, Russell Brunson. Hey everyone, so I am 2 days into my 6-day event. I've been doing a lot of events lately. I need to stop this. I need to get back to like just working hard. Like literally I'm kind of I'm kinda getting, not burned out, but just like, I gotta stop doing events. We did a 5-day event for the certification in Boise, and now we've got 6 days. We got our high-end mastermind, our inner circle grew so big that we had to split it into 2 groups. And then we have our $12,000 program Ignite, and then we do an event in Boise for them as well. So I kinda like bundled them all together. So Monday, Tuesday we had a mastermind, Wednesday, Thursday we have the Ignite event, and then Friday, Saturday we have the next inner circle. So kind of a crazy week, but the first 2 days, It's always interesting, like, and this is me getting vulnerable and it's almost 1 in the morning and I'm tired, so maybe I'll listen to this later and be like, why in the world am I sharing all this? But you guys are getting it 'cause you are here listening when I'm talking. So anyway, like, it's funny 'cause like, I'm sure all you guys get this, like, the point where you get some burnout in your business. Right now I'm kind of feeling that a little bit. I think partially it's just because the last 12 months since I launched ClickFunnels, we've been running fast and trying to grow and scale company, which luckily has been working, so that's kind of, that's exciting, right? That's a big thumbs up. And then cut off all the other businesses, so I shut things down. The only business we really have besides ClickFunnels right now that's live and active is the DotCom Secrets business, which has a bunch of employees and there's things happening there as well. You know, our high-end coaching, things like that. It seems like recently coaching's exploded, which takes a lot more time, and seminars and trying to speak, so ClickFunnels and this and that, and it's just, thing after thing after thing that, you know, it's getting a lot. And so right now, from this week and then like I have 2 weeks off and then I'm going to Australia for a week and then I got like 3 speaking gigs in a week and then it's just, and then after that I get like a 2 or 3 month break which is gonna be really, really nice. But just kind of like chaotic, right? And a lot of traveling, a lot of time away from my family and I honestly, all I wanna do is be at home in my wrestling room playing with my kids. And so I'm trying to get through this backlog of commitments and then we're gonna really restructuring things and trying to protect my time a lot more after the first week of November. And so part of me coming to this coaching was just like, you know, like, do I wanna keep doing that? Like, do we just shut down DotCom Secrets and focus on ClickFunnels? Like, that's on us where the big opportunity is. And so yes, or Monday when I was driving, when I was driving to the mastermind, I Voxed Liz, a lot of you guys know Liz, and I just kinda said, hey, you know, what would be your thoughts if I did stop doing the coaching stuff? I'd be curious. And she messaged back like this really great thing about just the impact that I had on her life life and anyway, it just made me feel really good. And then we started the mastermind and honestly, I was nervous at first because there's a lot of new faces in the group. I'm like, hope everyone gets along and hope that everyone's providing value and I just want to make it like, I just want to make an amazing experience for the group. So we did it day 1, day 2 and it's been kind of hard because I'm also planning for the events happening the next 2 days so I pull an 8-hour day with the mastermind and I go back to the office for the next 6 or 7 hours working on presentations and then all the mastermind that I just got done I was done spending 8 more hours working on presentations for tomorrow. And so I was just tired and worn out and beat up and it was amazing at the end of the mastermind today, I had everyone go through and say like, what was your biggest aha? And it was, man, it was awesome. Like just seeing people who came in on Monday and within 48 hours, like completely transformed not just their business in a lot of situations, but their lives. We had one guy, an older gentleman who started bawling his eyes out when he was sharing his takeaway. And then we had someone else who it completely changed the trajectory story of his life moving forward. Just like, and for me to have a chance to be part of that, to have facilitated that and to be around that, is just so neat. And I remember I got back to the office and I had all this stuff that was happening. I was kind of stressed out and overwhelmed and all these things. And I got a Vox from this dude named Noah in our group. And just left me the coolest Vox just thanking me for the experience and all these kind of things. I'm sitting there tired 'cause I wanna go home and worn out and he was like, inspired that I was putting this much effort into the event the next day. And just, man, like, just changed my, you know, just made me so grateful for that. And I think that it's interesting, like, I get a lot of value personally out of that, out of the helping and the serving and seeing people's lives and businesses affected in that way. And just interesting, so it's funny, After all the stress and the headache and the tiredness and almost trying to feel like, should we just stop doing this or keep, what's the plan? After a day like that, it was just kind of like, you know what, this is, what we're doing is good, it's worth it, it isn't just me selling something to make money, but it's people having life-changing effects because of it, which is, I think, one of the main reasons most of us get into business, especially a coaching-type business. So, with that said, I'm 2 days into a 4-day event, I'm sure I'll I'll message you guys again throughout the week telling you the ups and the downs. I'm sure there'll be some of those as we make it all through it. But I'm just excited. I really enjoy this and I love the chance this gives me to share and to grow and to think and to try to think bigger than I normally do, to try to inspire and bring new things. I'm just gonna say for you guys, whatever business it is you're in, I would try to add some kind of coaching component to it just because when you do, you start making connections and you start seeing, like, I don't know how to explain it. I've talked about this in different podcasts. When I was in high school, my senior year, they had me start coaching at wrestling camps and I remember trying to break down moves for people and learning and really starting to figure out why these things work. It wasn't just like, I could do the move, but I started realizing why the move works. When you understand that and you're conscious of it, you can change things and you can make things better and execute things better. I think a big part of that was For me, when we put this event together, we're calling it Funnel Catcher, and it was kind of walking through the content promotion strategy that we're starting to do in our business. I really had to be able to get the information to be able to share over the next 2 days with everybody. We had to test a lot of things, we had to try a lot of things. I had to learn a lot of things. I had to think through things. I had to try to figure out why does this work and why isn't this working, and how could this work potentially on this network and that. And just made me think at a different level than I would if I was just in my business the whole time. Hey, I'm grateful for that. It's pretty cool. So what's cool is that we have the presentations over the next 2 days, but, and it's gonna be a good framework for other, for the entrepreneurs who are at the event to take and to run with. But it also, it's now, it's forced me to build a foundation as well. Where we would go from something we're kind of onesie-twosie doing to here's the framework. In a defined way. Anyway, it's pretty exciting. So I don't know if my ramblings meant anything or mattered tonight, but hopefully it did. Hopefully you guys feel that in your business sometimes where you're stressed and you're overwhelmed and you're tired and you just wanna give up sometimes even. But after you do finish through and execute and you see the fruits of it, and how it can affect people, I mean, that's the recharge, that's what gets you going again. It keeps you excited. So, that's it. I am home. I have got a whopping 5 hours of sleep I gotta get tonight before I'm on stage tomorrow. And I'm on stage the whole day. So, I'm gonna get some sleep and I will be ready in the morning to deliver and serve. And for all of you guys who are in Ignite or Inner Circle, I'm excited to see you guys in the morning. And hopefully what I bring tomorrow will help transform you and your businesses and get you to where you want to be. Appreciate everybody for listening, and we will talk to you all again very, very soon. Thanks, guys.
