They're not really lessons, they're kind of laws that you live by. Dan opened my eyes to what small business marketing looks like.
Dan teaches strategic direct response that is timeless.
His ripple effect touches people who don't even know his name. The world as we know it was changed because Dan Kennedy became obsessed with marketing. Welcome to the Magnetic Marketing Podcast with your host, Dan Kennedy. I'm running low on time, so I'm probably gonna speed up my talking if that's okay. Is that okay with everyone? What I'm talking about right now is the way we drive traffic to websites, we don't go out there and, and My whole philosophy is traffic is not something that takes a lot of brains to do. It's all a mechanical process. You do A, you get B. So what we've gone through is we've gone through and we've created what we call little traffic systems. Now, I read a book called Michael Gerber called The E-Myth. And The E-Myth talks, have you ever read The E-Myth? Okay, The E-Myth basically talks about finding, creating systems to replicate yourself, replicate other people. So that's what The E-Myth is. So I read that book and I thought, that's a really good idea. Instead of me sitting here and trying to run a PPC campaign, trying to run an SEO campaign, and trying to set up JVs, and trying to do all these things and juggling 1,000 balls at once, I thought, what if I created little systems, I hired people and gave them this ball or gave them this ball and they started running it for me? I thought that'd be a good idea. So we started going through and started creating traffic systems based on all the things that I was learning and doing. So we got about 74 different traffic systems I'm gonna cover in the next 13 minutes and 55 seconds. Each of these traffic systems is good enough to get you 100 visitors a day. Most of them will get you a lot more than 100 visitors a day. I can't really go through 74, I think I'm gonna go through maybe 2 of them. Each of them will get you 100 visitors a day, a lot of them are getting more than that. So based on this eTraffic system I'm going to teach you, could easily by themselves give you 100 visitors a day. OK? So first question, if Oprah was to mention your website on her TV show every single day, do you think you'd get at least 100 visitors a day? Yeah? OK, let me show you the trick behind that. We have something called the Oprah Traffic Method. Now basically what we do, my wife watches Oprah, and she emails me every single day and says, hey, on Friday Suzy Orman's going to be on Oprah. She's pitching her new book. Hey, on Tuesday Dr. Oz is going to be on talking about this. So she emails me what the stories that are coming up are gonna be happening. Now the cool thing about Google is Google has this like love relationship with some certain websites, and for whatever reason it loves these sites so much that it'll rank people really, really high really, really fast. Okay, Mike showed you some of these sites, Keynigs yesterday, or two days ago, with traffic guys, they submit these sites and really fast these sites are listed like in 8 hours, 10 hours, really, really high in Google. And so what we do is we kinda capitalize on it. I know that hey, tomorrow Oprah's gonna be talking about this, I have some sites I can post things to that if I get 'em out there fast, Google's gonna list 'em really high, and if someone now watches Oprah's show and they go search for something, I can be in that slot. I can get in there really, really fast. And so we started doing that. And so again, we find out what the hot shows on Oprah, on the Today Show, on the news, you know, things that are hot that are happening in the future, the very near future, 1 or 2 days away, and we apply the Oprah traffic method, which I can't go into, I don't have time to break down the whole thing, but basically it's submitting content to Web 2.0 sites. Sites like Squidoo, sites like HubPages, YouTube, Weebly, things like that. If you have Traffic Geyser, it does a lot of this for you. You can go and create it, use Traffic Geyser, and boom, you get pages out there really, really fast. Here's an example. We had, before Oprah found out about a keyword, we found out about something that was gonna be on. Within 4 hours, we got 2 listings in the top 10 in Google, and within 8 hours, we had 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5 of the top listings in Google within 8 hours before the show even started. The show hit the next day, and boom, we got traffic. Okay, you see how powerful that is? Who here thinks they can use that to get at least 100 or 200 visitors a day? That's it? It's really simple, you guys, I promise you. Okay. Now before you, again, I don't want to go into, we talked a lot at the beginning about strategy versus tactics. I don't want to focus on the tactics behind, you go to this page, you create the account, you submit this. You need to know the concepts behind it, because after that you can outsource the rest of it. If you say to someone, hey, I need 50,000 pages on Squidoo doing this, I need this, I need this. When you understand the concept behind it, you can get people to do the work easily. You just need, as the entrepreneur, need to understand the process and the concept behind it. Okay? So I'm gonna probably skip this slide. But basically Michael Gerber, if you were listening to him, you'd say, Don't focus on the things, focus on getting the specialized knowledge, creating a system, and taking action. That's the key to this whole thing. Okay, so here's System of Creation headquarters, my office. This is me in my library. I buy every single person's product that is launched in the internet marketing space, 'cause I wanna find out what they're talking about, what's working, what's not working. This is a corner of my library. This room wraps the entire room, and the whole thing is filled with books and courses and everything like that. I think we spend between $150,000 and $200,000 a year just on courses and products. And either I go through it, somebody in my office goes through these things, we listen to them, we learn them, and then we create systems out of them. Out of them that we can then give to employees to go and run and manage, drive traffic with, okay? So why do I buy every product? This is a story about, this is Mark Schultz, he was my wrestling coach at BYU. The reason why I buy every product, I have a lot of friends say, well, you have $200,000 of product, but all your friends give you the products. You can ask, if you see Karen Schaefer's in the room here somewhere, she's in the home staging, she's over here, she's in the home staging business. Karen, did you send me a free copy of your product or did I buy it? Okay, see, I buy everyone's product, and this is the reason why I buy everybody's product. Okay, I'm not even in the home staging niche, I just wanted to see what she was teaching, and the marketing she was teaching home staging, I wanted to learn it. OK, the reason why I buy it is because Mark Schultz, when I started wrestling at BYU, he came to me the first day. He knocked on my door. He said, hey Russell, I got a DVD for you. This is a DVD of me wrestling. I want you to watch it. So I'm like, OK. So I took the DVD. And he said, give me your wallet. Now, the reason why I was a little nervous is that if you ever see Mark Schultz, this is a picture of him beating up a guy in UFC. This guy was about 6'6", black dude that was just like, gah. And this is my coach beating the trash out of him bare knuckled. So he asked me to give me my wallet. I just kind of timidly gave it to him. He opened it up. Took all my money out, put it in his pocket, and handed me back the wallet. I was like, Coach, what are you doing? He's like, if I just gave you that DVD, it would go on your shelf and you would never watch it. He's like, now that you've made a financial investment, you are going to watch that and it's going to change your life. I said, all right. And he's right, though. I watched the DVD over and over and over again because it cost me $12, which was all the money I had in the world at the time. So that's why I invest in every single person's product. I pay for that out of my own pocket because it's important. Because if not, if Karen just gave it to me and it sat on my shelf, I'd never look at it. Because I paid with my own money, I'm going to go through it. I'm going to learn. I'm going to study it. Okay, question number 2: if the top thought leaders and bloggers in the world blog about you daily, do you think you'd get 100 visitors a day? Good. Okay, here's a secret to do that. There's a free software product called Comment Sniper, and the software will let you go and let you follow everybody's blogs. And when somebody makes a blog post, it'll send you a notification. A little thing will pop up on your computer saying, hey, Seth Godin just posted something to his blog. So if I know Seth Godin just posted something to his blog, I know that there are like 10 or like a million people that are following him on his blog, what do I do? I run to his blog and I comment really quickly about how great Seth Godin is, how he's brilliant, I love that idea, and by the way, I've got a free video that reveals the number one secret to blank. Click here. Okay? What happens when you follow people with big blogs and big followers and big readership, if you're the first person back and you post, here's a, we had, on this one we had 526 people comment on this blog post on my website. We had like over 10,000 people who read the whole thing. Now if you're the first person to comment on there and throw your link in there for something, guess what happened? Tens of thousands of people would have seen that link and you would have had a huge portion of clicking on your link going to your site and it didn't cost you a penny. Okay? So we follow people's blogs in all sorts of industries and watch them. When someone with a following posts, we get there as quick as we can and we intelligently comment on what they just said and we drop a link. Okay. Who here thinks they can use that to get at least 100 visitors a day? That's it? All right, good. Okay. So let me show you behind the scenes what I'm doing in my business. I told you guys before, we're launching a lot of niche businesses very, very quickly. This is one of my— I have a friend in Boise, he runs a chiropractic company. This is one we launched I was coaching last week, Align Chiropractic is his company, and he said, Russell, does this stuff work in my business? He was kind of the whole like, this doesn't work in my business thing. I'm like, no, it works really well. He's like, well, prove it. So I said, okay, this is the deal. I'm gonna set up my 3 websites, my SLO websites. Now, obviously, I don't really want to build a list for the chiropractic, you know, for people in our area that need chiropractor, but I'm like, if you'll pay me $40 a lead, I'll get you a ton of leads. He's like, alright, I can do $40 a lead, because I know that I can get leads for a local chiropractor for a lot less than $40 a piece. I set up the site for him, we're driving traffic now, I get $40 for every lead, he gets a new patient, and it's a win-win for both of us. Okay? We're doing this a lot of little businesses locally that I'm friends with dentists and chiropractors, stuff like that, we're doing it locally just in our area with guys and we're having really good results with it. Okay? This is Bulgarian Bag Secret. So my coach, Ivan Ivanov, the coach that we brought in from Bulgaria to train us, he invented these little bags right here. And these bags, you take them, they're full of sand, and you spin them around your head and it's like the greatest workout in the world. Destroys us, 2 or 3 times a week with these bags. Anyway, I looked at his website, and his website's got just a picture of the bag and an order button. And I was like, you sell any of these? He's like, yeah, I sell like 2 or 3 of them a day. Each of these bags cost $300. I'm like, you're making 3 sales a day on that thing? I'm like, how are you driving traffic? He's like, I don't know what that is, in his broken Bulgarian accent. I'm like, how do people find your site? I don't know. I'm like, you're selling 3 of these things a day? That's almost $1,000 a day in these bags. He's like, yeah, I don't know. I said, OK, this is the deal. I got an idea. You keep your site up there, I won't touch it. You keep making your 3 sales a day. I just wanna license your product, I'm gonna take it over here, I'm gonna set up a different site, bulgarianbagsecrets.com, I'm gonna film a DVD of you showing how to use the bag, and I'm gonna sell these over here. You keep doing what you're doing now, keep making your 3 sales a day, I don't care. I'm just gonna send them over here, I'll give you a percentage of all the sales that come through. He's like, sure, why not? So we set it up, start driving traffic, now I'm making sales on this bag, he's able to ship them out, makes his money, but it doesn't affect his business at all,, but now I got a new little niche site I can go into and make a bunch of money. For those who don't have a niche yet, you see some cool ways you can do that? You know someone who already has an existing business, say, look, I'm not gonna take anything away from your business, I'm just gonna give you more subscribers. Let me create a site over here, I'll create a bunch of subscribers and stuff, and we can kind of just both, it's a win-win for both of us. That's what we did with him. Any network marketers in the audience? All right, I'm in a couple network marketing programs, as you'll see. One of the companies I'm in is called SendOutCards, and they had a new program come out where they do home parties. So some of our downlines started doing home parties and just crushed it. And I said, hey, this is the deal. I'm gonna get you so many leads that you just close them all and, because MLM, I make benefit of all the leads she closes. All you need to do is create a product on how to do home parties with send out cards. So she created this product called Home Party Superstar. I set up the site, I'm driving traffic, I'm keeping all the money from the SLO, I'm giving her the leads, she's closing them, putting them down her downline, and it's a great win-win for both of us. Okay, this is an MLM my wife is in. She's in a company called doTERRA, which has essential oils. I created the SLO website for her. We created a video, a little product. People give it away, and then she gets the lead, she calls them, puts them in her downline. Okay, this stuff works great for MLMs. Body Evolution, we're in the fitness business, same kind of thing here. Overcome Pornography is another business we're in. I didn't know a lot about this topic at all, but I knew a guy who, I'm just joking. We partnered with a guy who, again, I don't know anything about psychology and things like that, but we met a guy who is a counselor, this kind of stuff. I said, hey, you got some great content. I'll knock out my 3 sites. You create the content, you call the phone number every single morning, and we'll be in business together. He's like, done. And we launched the site very, very quickly. So again, I'm looking for deals like this all day long where I can partner with people, have them call the phone number, leave the messages, we do all the stuff on the back end and make a bunch of money. Okay, so I'm gonna try to one-up myself with 5 very unique, very cool, very different traffic strategies. Hopefully you guys will get some great ideas. I will try to talk slow and enunciate. Okay, number 1, integration marketing. This Traffic strategy has probably made me more money than anything else I've ever done. So it's very important. Now, integration has a lot to do with affiliates and joint venture partners and things like that. Okay, figuring out ways to integrate into what other people are already doing. Now, a lot of people go and they say, hey Russell, I tried to JV with this guy and his list is bigger than mine, he won't promote my stuff and it doesn't work. So you got to be creative when you're looking at how to do joint ventures with people. Okay, one thing we've been doing recently is, if anyone— I'm sure a bunch of you guys are on the Internet Marketing People's list. And there's so much stuff happening in the industry. There's a new product launch every other day, sometimes 2 or 3 a day. It's just so much stuff. And so to get somebody to promote your stuff, it's like such a difficult thing. So what I looked at, I looked at this, the noise in the marketplace. I said, look, this is a great opportunity because all these guys are pounding people through email. But guess what internet marketers do not do? Direct mail. We have no idea how to do it. We're idiots, all of us. Like, it's horrible. So we've been going to everybody and basically saying, hey, this is the deal. We want you to promote our stuff. And they're like, ah, we can't, our schedule's filled. I'm like, no, no, no, no. I said, all we want to do is we want to take a list of all of your buyers who ever bought from you, and I will mail them a postcard. And I'll cover the cost of the postage, I'll do everything, and if they make any money off it, we'll split costs. And they're like, oh, that's easy. I never mail them stuff in the post— in the mail. We can do that all day long. So we're getting all these people just to give us their buyer lists for free and letting us promote our stuff. So that's an easy way to integrate into someone's marketing. The next thing is to go and say, hey, you know, again, come back to someone and say, hey, will you promote my stuff? And they're like, oh, I can't, I'm too busy. Hey, how about this? You've got your blog right now. Can I put a banner of mine on your blog? And they're like, oh sure, no big deal. And they throw a banner up there, they put their affiliate link on there, and now we've got something where all day long all these guys are driving traffic to their blogs, and we're getting sales from every single promotion that we're getting sales, as opposed to having to do a big huge blast out to their email list. See how that works? So look at integration. Look at the path that people are already sending their customers on. Instead of trying to be the guy that's like, hey, let me jump in the middle of your path, how can you figure out ways to get other people to integrate what you're doing with what they're doing? You see how that works? Very, very powerful. What we've been doing as well is looking at people like their signup process. They have a newsletter. Someone joins their newsletter, they land on a page, and then the thank you page, a lot of people it says, "Thank you so much for subscribing," and they just leave it there. So we're saying, "Hey, can we put something on that page please?" So everyone who subscribes to your list now gets pitched our offer. And we get tons and tons of traffic from that as well. The next step of that, which is even better, is you see people doing product launches or people selling products, or going to ClickBank and seeing people seeing people sell products. The big joint venture we're doing right now is going to people and putting our offers on their thank you pages. So guess what that does? That creates a list of buyers for us. Someone just bought somebody else's product, now they come to our page and we give away something for free, they give us name and email address, now we have a new buyer that's been added to our list. Okay? So there's a lot of ways you can do joint ventures without having to get someone to promote to your list. You go out there and you figure out what are the things that they're already doing out there and how can you integrate your marketing with their marketing. In ways that aren't taking away from what they're already doing. And there are so many deals like that, just tons and tons and tons of deals laying all over the place. Most of these guys are just so relieved that you don't want them to promote to their email list for you, they'll just be like, oh yes, thank heavens, put something here, put something here. Okay? And so it opens up a whole lot of doors, and that's integration marketing. Another thing to do with integration marketing is going back and everyone's got their autoresponder series, right? So you find a JV partner, you say, hey, instead of doing a big blast, how about in your follow-up series, You know, you probably have a 7 or 10-day follow-up series, and then after that, you're, you know, it just kind of ends. What if you just put my message on day 8, or day 3, or day 6, or something like that? And you set up the deal once, they put in their autoresponder sequence, now every single person who joins that person's list, on day 8 of their subscription, is gonna hear about you. That's so much more powerful than getting a one-time, hey, I'm just sending an email out to my list. Okay? So we're always looking for little things like that that we can integrate what we're doing back into other people's processes. Okay, so anytime we do anything affiliate-related, Any niche we're going to, that's the stuff we're looking for. Where are the existing traffic streams that are happening? How can we tap into those traffic streams? 'Cause you set some of those things up once, you can step away from it. It'll drive traffic for years and years and years without you ever doing anything again. Okay? Do you see that power about integration marketing? Okay? Kind of an easy one, but there's, if you think about it, there's so many different avenues, so many different ways you can take it. Okay, so that's the first one. Here's the next one up here. Email media buying. Who here is buying email ads? Are you serious? Who here rents email, or rents like direct mail lists? See, this is the room we're in. We're in Dan Kennedy's room. That's why you guys know about email. Okay, good news. This is even cooler than renting email lists. So people have huge, huge email lists of millions and millions of people, and guess what? For not that much money, they'll let you put ads in their email lists. For example, Newsmax is one place that we buy email ads. It's a conservative news site, and they'll rent you ad space in their list that goes out to 2 or 3 million people. You pay a couple thousand bucks, you get your ad in there, boom, and you send it out there. And it's like, it blows my mind that more people aren't doing email media buying. Everyone talks about banner ads, they talk about PPC, all that stuff, but by far, if I look at my traffic strategy, my number 2 traffic strategy is probably, after affiliate stuff, is buying ads in people's email lists. Now what we found, I know I was talking to Bill about this, they actually did a similar thing with theirs and found very similar results. We took all of our data, all of our customer with all of our buyers and ran it through, I can't remember, Equifax, Experian, one of those credit agency things. They did a whole bunch of data analysis on all of our buyers and our list and found out who our target customers are. Who has done that to their list before? A couple, should be a couple of you guys, good. If you haven't, something you should do, take all your lists and go send in and they do all sorts of just crazy data analysis stuff and they come out and say, here's your typical customer. They live in this type of house, they make this type of money, this is the age range, tell you just tons and tons of information about your people. And one of the interesting facts we found out about, after we ran all of our data, is that the majority of our people on our list are conservative Republicans. I would have never thought that. And Bill said he's had something very similar when they did that with their list. And so what was interesting is we went out there and there are tons and tons and tons of conservative Republican news sites that all have email lists that allow you to buy banner ads on the site, email ads, a whole bunch of stuff like that. So we started going to sites like Newsmax, Arkamax, there's a whole bunch of like news sites out there., and you can rent their email list. You put your ad in there, send it out, and boom, you just get tons and tons of traffic. And, for example, one of the sites— the site we do a lot of buying on is Archamax.com, which is, I think, A-R-C-H-A-M-A-X, I believe. Archamax. And with Archamax, they have a whole bunch of different lists. But their main list is 3 million people big. And for $5,000, you can send an email ad out to 5 million people. Okay? For 5 million people, we usually get, I don't know, 15,000, 20,000 clicks. 15,000, 20,000 visitors for $5,000 are coming to our site from there, and if we have an offer that works for that kind of a person, we just get an insane amount of sales and traffic and just a whole bunch of really, really good stuff happens from that. Okay? Now, every industry you're in, there's different lists out there that you can rent. I know in the dental market, I was talking to a guy and he was telling me about in the dental market there's this list that's got like 50 or 60,000 dentists in there, and for $5,000, they'll let you hit all 50 or 60,000 dentists in the country with an email list, with an email out to their list. So if you send a dental product, boom, there's a list. I know the chiropractic market's got the same kind of things. Insurance agent business, same kind of things. Every niche pretty much out there, you can find lists out there, and these are lists that are more from big corporate companies, and they make their money off of advertising. And so they don't look— it's not a joint venture type thing, it's not those type of deals. You come in there and they'll just— you just buy media with with them. And what's cool about it is, at least for us, usually we do joint venture, pay an affiliate 50% or 75% or 100% of the sale. And so we'll send out an email, and it's interesting because they'll go out and you'll see, you know, the affiliate commission you pay back is like $20,000. It's like, crap. Whereas these lists are twice as big and you pay $5,000 or $2,000 or $500, and it all goes out and you don't have to pay any affiliate commissions on top of it. In fact, it's kind of funny, there's this site, selfgrowth.com, and they have a big like self-help list. So we did a joint venture with these guys, and they sent an email out to our list, and they did really, really well with it. We sent them a commission check for $10,000. And we wanted to do another promotion with them, and we said, "Hey, will you guys promote this?" They said, "Yeah, we're gonna promote it." And then launch day came down, they didn't promote it. We called them and said, "Why didn't you promote it?" They said, "Oh, well, somebody bought an ad in our email list that day, and so we ran that ad instead." We said, "Well, how much did your ad in your list cost?" They're like, "Oh, $2,000." I'm like, "Can I buy tomorrow's ad in your list? Because I'd rather give you $2,000 than $10,000 all day long." They're like, "Oh, sure." So we bought the ad. And saved ourselves a ton of money. So, yeah, the owner of the business obviously wasn't looking very close to what was happening. An employee was like, "Oh yeah, we'll sell ad space." But I would say as far as traffic strategy, email media buying is one that after joint ventures is where we focus most of our time at, because there's so much volume. The thing I love about email stuff too is you get such a big, fast impact. You find out if something's working or not working. You send an email out and within a day you've got results on if your site, if it if the offer converted, if how much traffic came through, all kinds of stuff like that. You do a PPC campaign, it could take you 2 or 3 months before you have any kind of data that can come back and say, "Hey, this headline sucks." Here, I send an email out, and within like 15 minutes, I'm like, "Oh crap, it sucks. Change. Oh crap, it sucks. Change. Oh crap." And then all of a sudden, "Oh, that one works." And then, you know, the rest of your campaign for the next, you know, 4 hours, all the good traffic's coming through the right way. So email media is just, again, a fast way to test things and find out what's working, what's not working, and a great way to get subscribers onto your list really, really quickly. Got 2 more. This next one is called banner retargeting. Those who were in Peak Performers, you guys heard me talk about this last year. You guys remember how cool this is? Should I tell everybody else about it or should we keep it a secret? Alright. Anyone else angry about that? You guys wanna hear about it? You wanna hear it? Okay, this is the coolest thing in the world. So, anyone here ever heard of iContact, an autoresponder service? So I went to iContact and we signed up and I liked the service and then I was on my wife's computer, I logged into my iContact account and I left. And then a couple weeks later, she saw me on Eye Contact. She's like, oh, you know about Eye Contact? I'm like, well, yeah. She's like, oh, I see their ads everywhere. I'm like, what are you talking about? She's like, every site I go to, I see Eye Contact ads everywhere. I was like, really? So I went on her computer. I started going site to site. I'm like, these sites are— every site I went to, I saw Eye Contact banners everywhere. I'm like, holy cow, these guys must be rich. They are spending so much money on banners. Every single site I go to, Eye Contact is there and there and there. So I went to the office. Show my friends, I'm like, check this out. Go to these sites, you'll see Eye Contact ads everywhere. And they go to the sites, there's no ads. They're like, they must have just ran out of their media spend, because the ads are gone overnight. I'm like, I don't understand. I'm like, well, go to Eye Contact's site. I want to show you what their site looks like so you can see the banner. So they go to the site. I'm like, hey, you see the site? Now go back to the site and you'll see it again. So they go back to the site, and all of a sudden, the banners start popping up everywhere. And he's like, now they're everywhere. That's really, really weird. So anyway, I started digging a little deeper, digging a little deeper, and found out about a system, about a process called banner retargeting. I learned the process through a guy named Mike Hill, brilliant marketer, a close friend of mine. And what banner retargeting is, is kind of like a banner autoresponder. What happens is someone comes to your website, you can set a cookie basically saying, "Hey, this person came to your website, follow them. Everywhere they go from this point forward, I want you to show this banner." And they start leaving, and what happens is a bunch of cool things. First thing, similar to what I thought, people start— they come to your site and people don't buy a lot of times because they're like, "Ah, I'm not sure if this guy's legit or not. I don't know about this product. Then they leave and all of a sudden they're like, hey, Yahoo's advertising him. Oh, Juno's advertising him. They're over here. They're over here. It's like, this guy must know what he's talking about. He's either freaking rich or he's an idiot because he's spending a lot of money. Everywhere I go I see his ads. So they're going to come back. OK, I trust this guy now. He's everywhere. There's no way he could be lying to me. For your brand awareness, it's huge. Second off, you can set up almost like an email autoresponder. So you can say, if they came to my squeeze page but left, they never opted in, Show them this banner and show it to them for 2 weeks. And after 2 weeks, change the message, because obviously they're not responding. So change the message to this message instead, this banner ad instead. Then you set up where if they opt in, but then, and they land on the sales page, but then they leave, now you already know they opted in, so you're not going to drive them back to the opt-in page. You can set a different banner and push them directly back to the sales letter. And the same thing, you say, now show this banner for a week, then a week later show this other banner. And you can set up whole, excuse me, and a whole bunch of different targeted campaigns based on that. Okay, you guys see how powerful that is? We always talk about, you know, send 100 visitors to a squeeze page, we get 30% opt-in rate, 70% of the people bailed, what do you do with those people, they're gone. No, now you follow them around, you keep right on them, and you keep on them, and they can't get away from you, and you keep following, keep following, keep following. So it works really, really well. Now, we've been using this on like product launches and stuff. When we worked with Mike Hill, he did his product launch, and he did the same thing. He had all the IM guys just pound his squeeze page, pre-launch and he just cookie'd all these people. And then there's a whole launch process. Anywhere they went, you see Mike Hill's product. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Just everywhere and just flooded it. And you see just this huge lift in so much stuff. You get more type-in traffic. You get more comeback buyers. Like, just so much stuff happens because of the brand awareness and stuff like that you're building. Now, I'm gonna tell you guys the future of the banner world, 'cause it's evolving and doing some insane crazy stuff right now. So that's kind of the first level, but they're doing so much data stuff with banners right now where they're following people. There's so much data about happening from all you guys, you don't even know what's happening on your computers. When you go to people's sites, these banner companies are monitoring what kind of sites you go to, where you go, why you go, and all sorts of stuff. And they're following you around from site to site to site to site. And they're getting to the point right now where, with the technology, that you can actually come in and say, "Look, you know, a lot of people come to my site and they bail. That's fine, but I want you to start following patterns of these people and see what other kind of sites they go to. And then if someone, you know, you learn this pattern of where people are going to that are on my sites, especially not just people who are on my sites, but the buyers who are coming to my sites, Follow the pattern of the buyers, and then I want to find other people following those same patterns and start following them. So if you came to my site and you went and you bought something and you left, and then you followed 10 different sites, and the next person came and they never bought my thing and they never knew about it, but they started buying the same thing as you were, AdSense says, "This person is the same demographic as yours, so start following that person too. Start showing my banners as well. Start bringing that person to you." Do you guys see how cool that is? There's some really just awesome cool stuff that's happening with all the banner stuff. Google's just launching their banner network, which is allowing you to do some retargeting stuff. There's some other ones out there. I wish there was like a service like RecMin that's awesome. There's one I'm working with Mike Hill. He does this for his clients. We're trying to work with him to create an actual service. But for right now, I say Google's got one they're working on right now. You can sign up for some beta stuff and try it out. There's a couple other ones out there. If you search for banner retargeting or banner follow-up, you can see some stuff of what's happening. But the banner stuff is where I really think is one of the biggest opportunities for the future. Because there's so much banner stuff happening out there. And, you know, one of the biggest things with marketing is about your distribution channel. How much distribution you have to people. Okay, our email list is our distribution. But if you don't have your email list, what other distribution channels do you have? Someone else's email list, this thing, this thing. With banners, they're already distributed completely across the whole internet. The whole internet is just blanketed in banners. If you can start finding and identifying the channels of people that are coming through, start targeting in on them, it just opens up these distribution channels directly to your customers and similar people who could be your customers that was that was never available before. It's just insane the amount of stuff you can start doing with banner retargeting. So, you guys like that one? That one up better than the last one? Okay, good. All right. Okay, I've got one more for you guys. This last one, this was kind of cool. I wasn't planning on talking about this. I actually added this to my slide this morning, but yesterday someone at one of the tables asked me, you know, what's like, give me a really cool idea. So I was like, what's a really cool idea? And I told them about this concept that I've never talked about before with anyone else outside of our mastermind group. Those who are in my— our personal mastermind group, we talked a lot about this at our last event. And it's something that's what's called the Mechanical Turk. Anyone know what a Mechanical Turk is? A couple people. So this is the story as it goes. So this is a picture back in the— I can't remember the year— 1800s or something like that. These guys built this box right here. And this box supposedly was like— it was like a computer. This was before computers. It was like a computer. It had the ability to go and beat people at chess. So he brought all these people in to play chess against the Mechanical Turk. And they played chess against this thing. And this thing started beating everybody at chess. And they're like, I can't believe you built a computer that can beat a human at chess. And it kept happening over and over and over again. And they took this box all over Europe, all over America, just beating the crap out of all these people at chess. And it was like this big thing. And everyone was just blown away by this computer that they'd built, you know, pre-computers, this box, this Mechanical Turk that was beating everybody at chess. OK, well, they found out— years and years later was kind of interesting. They opened it up and they found out the Mechanical Turk was just a person who was really good at chess inside this box. Is that interesting? So this Mechanical Turk was inside the box here, and he was playing chess and beating everybody. And that was a big hoax, but it went around for years and years and years like that. Okay, interesting. So recently— I didn't know what a Mechanical Turk was until about 2 months ago— but recently Amazon created a new site called the Mechanical Turk. This is a picture of it. Now, at first I saw the site, I thought this is really cool, but I'm like, how do you make money with it? And what it is, it's this big huge site where people come and you can create micro projects, tiny, tiny, tiny projects, and you put it, and you put like how much you want to pay for. So I'm looking for someone to do this and I will pay 3 cents, or I'll pay 5 cents, or I'll pay whatever it is for someone to do that, that task. Okay, and there's people from all over the world, from India, from just all over the world, they log in the site and they find a cool task and they do it and they get paid 3 cents or 5 cents or 10 cents. Okay, so my friends, he saw the site, he's like, this is really cool, I'm gonna do something with it. And it was his wife's birthday, so he put up the project and said, I'm looking for 800 people to text my wife that I love her, and I'm paying 5 cents per text message. So put it out there, and within like an hour, he had 800 people going and take it, text his wife, hey, Joe loves you, send, Joe loves you, send. She got 800 text messages in a row from all sorts of random people from all around the world telling her about how Joe loves her, and she was kind of freaked out about it, right? Hey, you know, everyone's texting me. I can't even call you. My phone won't stop texting. And he was like, happy birthday, I love you. But it was a really cool thing that he did. Cost him like $100. OK? Now, I've also seen people who get really, really angry at companies, and they wanted to injure them or hurt them or whatever. And so they go on there, they post things like, hey, this is— I want you to call this phone number every 2 minutes for the next week. I'll pay you $0.10 per phone call. And they'll go and just pound someone's phones with it. And the person can't get off the phone because all these people from India are calling them all day long. So you can use this service for good, and you can use it for evil. So that's the first thing.
Now, this—
you can be as creative with this as humanly possible. I've seen people doing all sorts of insane stuff. So I'm gonna give you some ideas just to get the wheels in your head burning, kind of buzzing. So one idea, one of our site— one of our friends, he's got a site, and he sells aerosol, like, paintball guns.
Excuse me.
So he sells these aerosol paintball guns.. And on a site, it's kind of like a catalog site, right? So he's got his picture and he's got, you know, 2 or 3 paragraphs about the thing, and then a picture, 2 or 3 paragraphs. And it was like a 300-page site, and we looked at all the different pages of it. Now, with search engines, if you guys know anything about search engines, the more pages the better. And each page has to have different keywords, different focus. So what we wanted to do is just take every page and just make thousands of pages based on different keywords. But the problem is that you have duplicate content. It's the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. So we put a project on Mechanical Turk and we basically said, I'm looking I want you to rewrite one paragraph of my— every picture had 3 paragraphs in order, but I want you to rewrite one paragraph, one paragraph, one paragraph. I'll pay you 5 or 10 cents per paragraph. And then here's all my sites. He kind of set up in a queue so people could go through and start doing it. So he went through and he put it out there, and within like 2 or 3 hours, he had rewritten his site like 200 or 300 times over, every single paragraph individually. And then he went and spun it, you know, different paragraphs, things like that, and he ended up making like a a 4,000 or 5,000 page website with the same content. Every single page unique content because a different person basically looked at the paragraph, rewriting their own words, and everyone rewrote it a little differently. So he was able to make this huge new site with thousands of fingers out there to get people coming and buying his aerosol guns. Okay, pretty cool, huh? I see a lot of people who are launching a book or they're launching something and they want to get some buzz happening about it. So they go on there and they'll say, "Hey, I'm looking for people to go to forums and go to blogs and talk about me, or about my product, about my whatever." They put it out there and all of a sudden they cause these tsunamis of people going out around the internet talking about this, talking about that. Okay? If you're looking— if you're doing SEO stuff and you need a lot of links, SEO's all built off of links. So if you need a lot of links, you go out there and say, "Hey, I'm looking for people to go drop links for me. Here's the type of sites I need. I'll pay you 10 cents a link or, you know, 50 cents a link or whatever it comes down to." And you post it out there and you get people from all over the world who go out there and do these little micro projects. Okay, for very, very cheap. Do you guys see some cool ways you could use this, hopefully? All right. Do you like that? I'm curious to find out in the next, in the next, in the next 3 months after this event, who thinks of the coolest way to use that? Because there's some really, really cool stuff you can do with it. It's all based on people coming in and bidding on projects. You put in projects, what you want, people come in and do these little micro projects. So really cool.
