The Flu Shot Scam And Why You Feel Crappy
29 Dec 2015 · 0 min
In this informal podcast episode, Russell Brunson recounts his day-after-Christmas experience of binge‑eating sugary cereals and eggnog, which left him lethargic, foggy, and physically miserable. He contrasts this with his usual high‑fat, low‑carb diet that normally gives him high energy and even unusually high testosterone levels. Brunson references a Tony Robbins event that linked holiday overeating to increased flu susceptibility and described a family-wide illness he calls the "Thanksgiving tsunami," which occurred despite having flu shots that year. Since then his family has avoided flu shots and, according to him, has not gotten sick during holidays. He argues that the "flu shot" industry is a scam and that poor diet, not viruses, drives post‑holiday illness. Brunson concludes with a call to reset his diet to nutrient‑dense foods, urging listeners to reconsider their eating habits to maintain constant high performance.

Hey everyone, so this is a special episode. It is the day after Christmas and I am laying in my bed like I said, and I am not going to be driving to the office today. I'm hanging out with the kids, having fun. And, uh, yesterday was Christmas and it was awesome. The day before Christmas, I think I did a podcast, it was snowing, and so we went and built huge snow forts, which was awesome. And, um, and Christmas Eve we were up super late. Um, my family tradition, my wife and I's tradition— well, it's more mine, she only— she really likes it— my favorite Christmas show is Family Man with Nicolas Cage. So we stayed all night watching Family Man, wrapping presents, which Awesome. Got to bed about 2 o'clock, and then the kids have a rule they're not allowed into our room until 7. So I think they were about 3 o'clock in the morning and they're sitting there in their rooms waiting until 7. 7 o'clock they run down and wake us all up for Christmas. So we were pretty— I think we had like 4 or 5 hours of sleep, so we were, we were pretty beat. But we did Christmas, and then I thought, you know what, it's Christmas, I'm gonna eat and do whatever I want. And so I had like 20 bowls of cereal. I had a Fruity Pebbles cereal, I had a Reese's Puffs cereal, I had Marshmallow Mateys cereal, I had, um, uh, yes, every cereal we had, I had a bowl of that. I bought my own pint of eggnog and drank that all so good. By the way, eggnog, I found out for half a cup has like 23 grams of sugar or 30, maybe it was 33, anyway, something crazy like that. And yeah, just yesterday I was like, you know what, screw it, I'm eating whatever I want. So ate whatever I want. And what's interesting is throughout the day, like, I could not keep my eyes open. I couldn't keep my body awake. We would like, Colette and I both kept passing out. Like, she would pass out on the couch after, you know, after the whole opening presents and they're playing and she just passed out and I wanted to too. I was like, okay, I gotta stay awake 'cause I got Nora. She could choke on like half the new stuff we got. So I'm like, watch it, Nora. So Kletz slept for like 2 hours and then like, and then Nora fell asleep. So I lay down, boom, I was gone. And then the whole day we were like, we were half awake, half asleep the whole day. I feel like a mummy. I feel like I was like this. I don't know, I couldn't keep my eyes open. And then this morning I woke up and I feel like I got hit by a train. Like I feel horrible. And I realized like, and that's probably why my voice sounds kind of funny right now. It had to do with the fuel I was putting in my body. I was putting in horrible food because I can barely keep my eyes open throughout the day. It is amazing. 'Cause I eat pretty clean typically. If you followed me at all, you know I eat a really high-fat diet, low carbs, things like that, and I usually feel amazing. I usually have a ton of energy and I'm usually just feeling really, really good. Even the fact, like my testosterone levels are super low. My doctor, testosterone doctor, was like, "How are you standing right now?" I'm like, "What do you mean?" He's like, this is really low, like you should not feel good. And I'm like, I feel great. He's like, that doesn't make any sense. But like, because of my diet, like I feel, you know, I feel really, really good all the time. And yesterday after eating like probably what most people eat normally, I felt like garbage. Like I felt I couldn't even keep my eyes open. Like I literally the whole day I felt like it was this like foggy, like haze where I couldn't even keep my eyes open. And It was horrible. And today I'm going to start eating normal again. I'm really excited just to kind of like feel the difference again. But it's interesting, like the fuel you put in your body, how it affected it. I was thinking like, I don't think most people in the world, and maybe you at this point, you know, this is why I'm kind of sharing this, like you guys, if you're eating like cereal for breakfast and stuff, like it's destroying your performance. I can tell you now after like seeing the, seeing the way that most Americans eat, like it's bad. Like I can't even keep my eyes open. How do people function? How do you expect expected to come in and dominate whatever you do, if you feel like that, has 100% to do with the fuel you're eating. You know, it's interesting, we, um, you know, I always ate just like that probably my whole life, and I never knew it because I didn't know it had a bad effect on me because like it's— you're always in that state. If you're always in that state, you assume that's what you people are supposed to feel like, right? And, uh, it's like I was always in that state, and then first time I started thinking about it differently is when I went to Tony Robbins' event And I still remember one of the interesting things he talked about was he talked about the flu and kind of showed the science behind the flu shot and how basically the whole thing's pretty much a big scam. And all it is is a whole way for these guys to make billions and billions and billions of dollars, but how there's like no actual proof that any of it really works, right? And then they started showing the proof of what is shown, that the truth is, is, you know, Halloween comes around, we eat a whole crap ton of candy, and then Thanksgiving comes, we eat a whole bunch of horrible food, and then Christmas comes, then New Year comes, and it's like a month and a half, 2 months of just like horrible eating. And by about January, so our body is so broken down that we start getting the flu, and it shows its direct correlation to the holiday eating patterns and flu viruses and how that's like the, that's how it, how they go. It's interesting. And so that year, uh, I remember we went down to my parents' house for Thanksgiving dinner, or maybe it was Christmas, I can't remember. Uh, yes, it was Thanksgiving. And on the drive down, like, we all got sick. My wife got sick, my daughter got sick. They nicknamed that Thanksgiving tsunami, Colette, because my wife started— she got sick first. And by the time we were done, everyone in the whole entire house, um, all my cousins and everyone had gotten sick. And, uh, and I was thinking about, like, that was So I started thinking like, that's because all this crap we're eating. And they also— Tony said— and so now like I try to, especially during the holidays, I'm very conscious of what I eat. Like last week we did a juice fast the whole week before Christmas. I'm like, I want to protect myself from feeling the way I feel right this second. And, you know, but yesterday I thought, you know, who cares? I'm just gonna go and live it up for a day. But it's just crazy interesting And I think, you know, I believe what Tony said, you know, that year we all got the flu. And that year we got— it was weird because that year we actually had flu shots. And then every year since then, we have never had flu shots since. Like, we're pretty anti-flu shots now. We've never been sick during a holiday since. So it's really, really weird, the correlation of what we're eating and how we're feeling and how we're getting sick and the flus and all these things is 100% to do with the fuel we're putting into our bodies. So Just wanted to record this for myself and for everyone else to kind of document why I'm— as I'm laying here in bed, how I'm feeling. Like, I feel my nose is stuffed, my brain's all foggy. I feel like I don't want to move. And it all is from yesterday's, like, carb binge. It was horrible. It was amazing, tasted good, not gonna lie. But yeah, it was really, really bad. So if you're— if you're not feeling like in a spot every morning when you wake up where you just want to dominate the world and take over everything, and you feel like just kind of all the time, or not necessarily if you feel— well, if you just— if you, if you don't feel great all the time, you just feel normal. Normal is not a good thing. Like, I think what I felt yesterday is, is what normal people feel like every day. It scares me. I feel so— I feel so bad for everybody now. Like, if you want to feel amazing, it's time to shift your diet and think differently about how you're eating. And yeah, that's kind of my message for today. So I'm gonna eat really, really good today and see if— see how quick it can counteract. Our bodies are amazing how fast they can respond to things. So I'm gonna go eat some good stuff, flip it around, and see if a day of amazing eating will counteract a day of crap eating. All right guys, that's it. Get out of bed now. Gonna go conquer the day. I'll talk to you guys all again soon. Bye everybody!
