Uh huh. Claudia. I see. Fantastic work with Fit Mama too, right? FIT Maternity and Fit Mama.
Yeah.
Hey, tell me more about this movement you do with these women. And then we'll move on to post pregnancy exercise.
Okay?
Fitmaternity started with that invitation in 2009, and I had my name in a medical clinic. I wanted, I needed to create a way to promote my work. And I was in the days of distributing flyers while wasn't it there wasn't much Internet, right?
So I created a pregnancy brochure and I saw pregnant women there. From the moment my first pregnant women had a baby, I said, oops, I'm going to have to study postpartum because they had a baby, they want to exercise. But what now? What about this body? It's a different body. A body that stopped, went through 40 weeks of intense changes. And now this body bears some marks of pregnancy, not just physical ones. But we also have this evidence, right? That many things that happen during pregnancy don't just stay during pregnancy, like weight gain. So you eat as much as you want, then you lose it. It's not like that, right? This excess weight gain contributes to cardiovascular health, to diabetes, which can even have repercussions on the baby's life, the baby's childhood and the mother's life later. Postpartum, these women can return, right? Right. Postpartum, with a greater chance of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure as well. So I started there caring for pregnant women. Then, oops, I'm going to study the postpartum period. I want to see how these mothers are doing, how I can help these mothers. And after I stop, after how long can I return to physical activity? Me and all the women. Okay. It doesn't seem like I'm doing a consultation here, right? No. After I gave birth, that is, after I now have my baby in my arms, when can I start doing physical activity? It depends on the birth, how the pregnancy went and the situation. Right. I went back after a week, but my birth was natural. Yup. No, you don't have to.
I didn't have to stay still. I already really wanted to go back. My life is very active. I went back after a week.
But most women don't go back after a week, right? Yes. We have recommendations today, Issa, for that early return. The sooner the better for physical and emotional health. Okay, so you're at the hospital. You start with pelvic floor, physiotherapy exercises, breathing exercises. Once you go home, you start moving around, taking a walk with the baby. That walk in the sun. You know when you're going to take the baby. Gentle stretches. The term is gentle me, right? No, no. In Portuguese it's stretching, light movement, very light things. But you need to move to avoid thrombosis and postpartum. So this return to postpartum exercise has to be as quick as possible. What is postpartum thrombosis? Pregnant women have a state of hypercoagulability. They have a higher chance of developing thrombosis because we don't want it. The body is so wise that pregnant women, to avoid bleeding to death during childbirth, have more blood clotting. So these women have a higher chance of having thrombosis during pregnancy. So movement is important to prevent thrombosis. And postpartum can also cause thrombosis. So move them as soon as possible. A cesarean section takes a little longer for regulated exercise because of the scars and healing, whereas a vaginal delivery is much faster without lacerations, without stitches. But today we have a brand new questionnaire that also came out about postpartum exercise readiness. Unless the woman has very serious health conditions, she won't start exercising. She'll seek medical assistance. But to get the woman back to exercising as quickly as possible, there's a questionnaire with a few questions for the woman to answer. Oh, no, then I can go back now. I can be active now.
I liked it. I really liked it. Now, Carol, before we wrap up, we were at prema best, right? Together and receiving an endorsement from the popular vote, right?
