THE BELIEF THAT'S SABOTAGING REAL ESTATE AGENTS (And How to Break It) | Kevin Ray Ward

Short motivational talk by Kevin Ray Ward addressing limiting beliefs—especially the idea people are 'born' with or without talent—and arguing that skills (e.g., perfect pitch) can be learned through deliberate practice, training, and mentorship. Intended to reframe excuses and encourage commitment to growth for real-estate professionals and entrepreneurs.
While the masses spend their days dominated by doubt, distraction and dead ends, the masters go through their day on fire. My friend, welcome to the fire zone.
One of the most damaging beliefs that you will ever have is the belief that you're just not good at something because that's the way you were born. Just don't have that natural talent that, my friend, is almost all, hey there, it's coach Kevin. Reward with your fire zone message of the day. And can you relate to any one of these? I've just never been good with people. I horrible at remembering names. I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. I could go on and on with all the, I'm not good with tech.
I'm not tech savvy.
I could go on and on with stories that I hear people say, and I've said some of them myself, that stories that we tell about who we are, about these limiting beliefs that basically are excuses why I can't do something and be great at something because I wasn't born genetically or I was not born with that skill or that talent. And several years ago there was a book by Anders Ericsson called Peak that was written out of a ton of research that he did. This guy's a professor and a researcher. And basically here's what his conclusion was when it comes to being able to be a high achiever at virtually anything, and that is this. Nobody is born great at anything. They pretty much have to learn it. And it does study after study and talks about different types of things that just basically say, you know, all these things where we've thought that people are predisposed to be great at something, that some people are just born naturally gifted musically or personality wise or intelligence. And that the science says, the actual research says that's not really the case. I'll just give you one quick example. And just the main purpose of this is to tell you, get out of your head these stories that you don't have the ability to do something because you were born that way. So one of the things that in the music industry of singers is the idea of perfect pitch. And that is somebody that can recognize any note. They hear a note and they can tell you what note it is and they can hit it and they can write, they can just, they can do that. It's called perfect pitch. And they say it's very, very rare, even among musicians and even among great singers. Mozart was supposed to have perfect pitch and other, a few others. And so it's like you either are born with it or you're not, but most people aren't born with it. And that was completely shattered in 2014 when a study was done by a research group in, in Japan, a musical school, and they took 24 random children and they put put them through a year and a half of training with one objective. And that was to teach them to be able to identify and recognize certain notes, certain musical notes on, on the musical scale at a different pitch. And what they discovered was that what they were basically doing was they were basically teaching them to have perfect pitch where they could actually identify the different notes and what, whether that's a C sharp or that's a D minor or whatever. And they were wondering to see can this be taught? And within 18 months, 24 of the 24 students all had perfect pitch. They all learned it. Every single one of them. Every single one of them were capable of perfect pitch. The only difference is between them and the vast majority of people is they were never taught it. But there's 24 kids were taught it and they were suddenly taught, you can do this. And what they just said is it completely shattered a musical theory about people's ability to have perfect pitch. Limiting beliefs. Stories have limited us for our whole life. And my friend, it's time to get rid of those limiting beliefs. Here's the point. You can do almost anything if you set your mind to it. If you're willing to do the work, the deliberate practice, the training, the mentorship, and put yourself in a position of belief and commitment to make it happen, you can great at almost anything you choose to do. So go be great and do it.
