A speaker argues that the entrepreneurial push to work 70-100 hours a week is really just someone's drug habit and trauma dressed up as ambition. The cost: broken family, love life, and spirituality. Paradoxically, he says people with healthier boundaries actually make more money.

Working more than 70 hours a week can leave you broke. Here's why. We see a lot of big entrepreneurs talking about how you need to work 12 hours a day. You need to work with aggression, put in as many hours as you possibly can. Do not stop working. But the problem is, is that they're broke in other areas of their life. The problem is, is they're trying to hold you to a standard that they hold themselves. And the only reason they have that standard in the first place is because they created coping mechanisms that artificially get them to that level, meaning they might take drugs, they might take Adderall, they might do it in pride. They might be rejected from a girl that, you know, mistreated them when they were 12 years old. And now they're trying to prove to the world that they can outwork work everybody and make the most money, and that's not your life. Yes, you'll be broke in other areas. What's going to happen is you'll see a great fall in your family life, or you'll see a great fall in your love life, or you'll see a great fall in your spiritual life. If you work 70 hours to 100 hours a week and you burn yourself out with just working on your business all day, I would say you have a problem, an addiction to your business. And I would also say that you will make less money than somebody that's not attached to their business.
