Episode 53: Your Vision Board is Keeping You Stuck
21 Jun 2024 · 19 min
Allie Bjerk argues that vision boards can actually hold you back from building a successful business. She shares how shifting your mindset and taking action on small offers matters more than visualizing an ideal future.
That webinar went on to sell millions. I think we over Time generated about $4 million in sales with that single webinar. And had I listened to my resistance, had I listened to the lack of I'm not enough, this isn't enough, no one likes my stuff. Why would anybody show up? None of that would have happened.
Welcome to the Start Tiny podcast. I'm your host, Ali bjork. And in 2019, I launched my first ever tiny offer for $27 and generated over $5 million in revenue. After starting an industry wide low ticket revolution, I've been helping other entrepreneurs launch and scale their own tiny offers. And on this podcast we pull back the curtain on exactly how they're doing it so that you can do it too.
What is up, everybody? Welcome back to another episode of the Start Tiny Show. I'm so glad you guys are here. I'm glad you found this episode. Hopefully it will bring some light bulbs into your life or shine a light on some limiting beliefs that you might have that are holding you back. And maybe you don't even realize those beliefs exist. I'm just getting over being sick, so my voice sounds a little, a little more masculine than normal maybe. But I went for a walk this morning and usually when I go for a walk, what I like to do is put in my earbuds and listen to some type of guided meditation. I can't seem to be bothered to sit still still for long enough to do a guided meditation. You know, it's like 20 minutes, 25 minutes sometimes. But if I'm going for a walk, I can get into, you know, like the state of meditating on whatever it is that they're telling me. But I'm also in motion, so I'm having ideas and aha moments and things that, you know, can be really life changing in the way that I see the world or the way that I act in my business, in my life while I'm going for a walk. So I always take notes on my phone too, on what things are, you know, even send slack messages to my team, like, we need to do this. I just had this idea. So one of the, one of the first things is like finding your own rhythm on, on where you're inspired or where your energy is high and learning how to really create that energy in your life so that you can keep moving forward so you can find those moments of inspiration. If I were to sit on my couch and try to meditate or listen to these guided meditations, I'd be like, I'm Bored. I can't do this. But I found a way to make it work for me, for my. For. For how I like to function in life. So that's one of the first aha. Moments that I'd love to share with you, but one of the things that I was listening to this morning was about creating abundance in your life and thinking about, where are you feeling lack still? So a lot of us will think about creating a vision board, right? We'll. We'll print off a picture of the car that we want or the house that we want or, you know, for me, it's been like publishing my book or going speaking on a speaking tour, whatever. Like, I will put pictures like that on my vision board. But then every time I look at my vision board, I'm like, ah, dang it, why haven't I done that yet? Like, what's wrong with me? Why is this taking so long? And then I'm immediately pushed into lack. I'm immediately pushed into what I don't have or what I'm not doing or why I'm not enough or why I suck or whatever. So vision boards have never really worked for me. And I didn't realize it until I listened to this meditation this morning that was all about abundance. And it was talking about, you know, we want things because we think we're going to feel a certain way after we accomplish them. We want the car because we feel like we're going to have status while we're driving it, or people are going to look at us and they're gonna be like, oh, she has a really nice car. She must be successful. She must be smart. She must be, blah, blah, blah, whatever. We think people are going to think about us. We. We can create those feelings without even needing the stuff. Like, when I was walking, it brought me through this visualization, and it's like, you know, think of everyone that loves you. Think of what makes you feel really warm and fuzzy during the day. What are your fav. Things to do? What are your favorite things to eat? Like, think of all your favorite stuff, and think about, you know, how you feel when you're around those things or when you're in those situations and realizing, like, you can have all of the stuff that you want right now just through feeling it. And that is what is going to help you continue having the creative ideas that will create the abundance that will help you get to the next level, that will help you see who you need to hire, what offers the launch, what to create. You know, when you're in that energy, it's so much easier to think creatively and solve problems in an efficient way instead of just spinning your wheels or repeating these same cycles over and over again. So as I was thinking about that, this is kind of unrelated to the, the meditation that I was listening to, but as I was thinking about it, I was thinking about future, Future Alley. Like when I look at my current strategy and what I'm doing for leads or what I'm doing to grow my business, how I'm showing up for my business, I was wondering, this question popped into my head and I was like, how much of what I do is formed by my limiting beliefs? Like, do I show up and run ads and say, like, oh, I don't like social media? Is it because I secretly don't think I'll be good enough to show up on social media? Right? Do I only do Evergreen because I'm afraid that, that when I do things live, like my kids are going to screw it up? Or is it fear based? Am I afraid people aren't going to show up or I'm going to say something stupid when it's live, you know, So I was thinking about that and I was like, I wonder how many of my clients or how many of the people that I serve that I work with that I talk to online. Like how many of you have created a marketing strategy around your limiting beliefs, around your lack, around your thinking you're not enough in some way, shape or form, capacity, whatever, if you could do be have anything, how would you show up in your business if you knew you were going to be consistent? Would you start that podcast? Would you show up on social media? Would you create more reels that have your face or your body in them if you weren't self conscious and you didn't think that you needed to lose £20? Right? Like these are the thoughts in my head. So when you think about that and you think about the resistance that is actually shaping your strategy, quote, unquote, what needs to be let go of? What can you just say, you know, what effort I'm going to show up as I am and that's my strategy. I'm just going to, when I feel things, I'm going to post them. It doesn't need to be so meticulously planned out. It can be more authentic and people are still going to like me. I'm still worthy of showing up for my business and marketing that business or, you know, I'm good enough to make a plan and stick to it. I trust myself enough that If I make a 30 day marketing plan, I'm going to show up for all of those 30 days. That's what I hear a lot from people, is like, well, I don't do anything because I'm afraid I won't be consistent. I'm afraid I'm going to, you know, drop off the wagon again or I'm going to start something and then it's going to be embarrassing and then I'm going to send one of those emails where I'm like, sorry, I haven't been here for a while. You might have noticed I've been missing. I promise you, no one, no one notices. Like, not to say they don't care about you, but everyone is just so in love with themselves that they're not really looking at your Instagram or your emails coming through. And they're not like, I, I wonder why Susie hasn't emailed me in two weeks. Like, everybody is just running as fast as they can in their own lives. That you don't have to be afraid of life happening or taking a couple weeks off. Like, this podcast summer happened, Kids are home. I had a team member come on the team and then leave because of personal reasons. And like, a lot of stuff happened in my business. And I'm not here apologizing. I'm not saying, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that I haven't posted any podcasts or created any podcasts in a while because that's what I, I practice what I preach, right? Like, I'm not, I know people aren't really watching and they're not judging. And if they are watching and judging, then they're probably not the right clients for me anyway, because I prefer people that are a little more laid back like me. But anyway, so think about that. Think about, where are you focusing on the lack and where are you focusing on maybe your own lack or your own inability to do something? And where is that keeping you from actually showing up and shifting your strategy into something that would work 10x better than what you're currently doing? Because that is the next step that you could be creating. And there's this amazing quote by Steven Pressfield, and this is the quote. Most of us have two lives. The life we live and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands resistance. And I love that quote so much that I have it as my background on my phone. And it just really reminds me of a couple super pivotal moments in my business. And I'm not sure if all of you have heard this story but we're gonna go through it, and if you've already heard it, you can be like, yeah, I know this one. Like, I know Ali's story. Cool. So when I launched my very first tiny offer, the one that went on to generate, you know, $600,000 in the first five months, six months, something like that, it was mind blowing, right? Like, it was monopoly money to me. I had no idea I was even capable of generating that type of money with my online business. And I remember that tiny offer, the $27 product that generated that much income. That wasn't the first time I had launched it. It took me three different tries to launch it. And I had so much resistance around starting ads and so much res. You know, paying to have people, Strangers see my stuff. Like, why would anyone want to see me? I'm just this mom from Minnesota, got three little kids. I wasn't super confident at the time. Like, the. The version of me that you see before you now or hear is like, completely. I'm like, you know, different. Totally different person than I was in 2019, 2018. And I. I just. If I hadn't faced the resistance, if I hadn't started those ads, I mean, I spent, what, $30 the first day, and I was terrified. And then I made $60 back, and I was like, what is happening? This actually. People are. Strangers are buying my stuff. This is totally an accident. Like, they're gonna ask for a refund. They didn't. They didn't mean to check out on purpose. There's no way some stranger actually bought this product on purpose. This is not. This isn't my life. But then it continued, right? People continued buying that product. And my reality shifted. My. How I saw myself begin to shift. I was like, of course people are buying this product and it's super valuable and they love it. And my confidence grew because I was getting feedback from people that they loved it because it kept happening. It kept growing, working. So my confidence kept growing. But then again, I hit another point of resistance where everybody was asking me, like, how are you doing this? Teach me the funnel. Teach me the strategy. How are you running ads to strangers and they're buying your stuff? Like, how does this work? And I was like, oh, you know, I'm going to run an evergreen webinar to a course and. And then you can learn my strategy. And. And my friend saw the evergreen webinar. He, like, stumbled across it on my website and he was like, what are you doing? Why are you. Why are you hiding this information? Why are you Just putting it on your website for no one to really find. You're not talking about it. You're not advertising it. Like, I was. I was doing the thing that I thought I should be doing because people were asking me. I thought I was showing up. I thought I was, you know, growing and doing the next. The next step. But I had so much resistance around what my friend then told me to do. He was like, no, no, no, Ali. Like, we're not going to just hide this little 997-997-course on your website where nobody's going to find it and you're not talking about it. You're going to run ads to a live webinar and you're going to pitch this as a $5,000 group coaching program. And my resistance was like, no, I am not. I am not going to do that. I am not going to put on a live webinar. That's bananas. I. I've never run a live webinar in my life. No one's going to show up. Like, why would I spend ad money on this just to sit on, like, Gotowebinar in an empty room? And it would be super awkward. Um, and no one's going to buy a group program. Like, I'm not a coach of a group. I can coach one on one. I can strategize. I can consult, like, I' great one on one. But me in a zoom room in front of, like, people staring at me and expecting me to have an answer. And like, everyone is having their own ideas about if I'm saying the right thing, if I'm not saying the right thing, I'm not doing it. I'm not. I'm not running a group coaching program. And. And he was kind enough, persistent enough, I guess, to say, I will. I'll build the pieces, Ali. I'll build the. The webinar registration page, the. You know, I'll put all the tech together, all the reminder emails. Like, I've got a system. This is my zone of genius. I'm going to help you get. Do this and show up in your zone of genius so that you can hit this next level. Right? So I showed up on live webinar night. We had, like, it was a crazy, crazy amount of people. We. I think we ran some ads, but mostly tiny offer buyers at that point. Cause I was so scared. And we had maybe what was it? I have to. I have to look at the numbers someday. But let's just say I had 500 people register. And I was like, holy schnikes. I cannot. I'm not ready for this. I was terrified. I was like shaking. I had my notes. I didn't even turn on my camera during the webinar because I was so scared. And we had 30, I think 30 different people buy sign up to join my group coaching program. We sold it out the very first time. And I love $27 sales. Like it's. It's so fun to make 27 bucks all day, throughout the day, every day. But let me tell you, selling a $5,000 group coaching program was next level. I was like, we made, you know, over six figures in a couple days. And I was like, what? Again, my reality mind blown. So this whole concept is really based on abundance and realizing crazy things can happen. Like things show up in your life that you never expected. Things happen in really unpredictable ways. And when we are looking at the lack and when we've got our vision board and we're looking at all the things we don't have, we're trying to muscle through. We're trying to logic our way into getting the things, but you just can't. Things show up in your life that you had no idea were on their way to you. And that's. That was kind of this. What happened with the webinar for me, because that webinar went on to sell millions. I think we over Time generated about $4 million in sales with that single webinar. And had I listened to my resistance, had I listened to the lack of I'm not enough, this isn't enough, no one likes my stuff. Why would anybody show up? None of that would have happened. And I, you know, I can't even imagine the reality that I would currently have. If I wasn't willing to go beyond my resistan. If I wasn't willing to step beyond my fear and. And listen to the advice that people around me are giving. If I just assumed that my innate gut instinct strategy of in this example, evergreen webinar to 9, 9, 7. Course, if I had only listened to what my resistance was telling me about what I should do create. And I did end up paying my friend a lot of money actually, because that was part of the deal is like, I'll set it up for you, but I get X from what we sell, right? There's all. Of course, of course he was paid handsomely for helping me set that up. But if I hadn't listened to him, I don't know where I would be. And I'm eternally grateful that he pushed me in the most you know, loving way possible of, like, you're full of crap. You need to show up and do this thing. So where can you give yourself some tough love? Where are you avoiding showing up? What kind of strategy are you avoiding doing or creating or being in your business? Like, what are you letting your resistance push you into that you could do behalf so much more if you would just step beyond your comfort level and you would do something new. Maybe it is a tiny offer. Maybe you want to create a tiny offer and run ads to it, but you're scared you don't have time to build it. Guess what? We can help with that. So if you're interested in learning more about how we could help with that, you can book a call from this webinar if you think that's something that you're interested in creating. Maybe you're listening to this podcast because you're like, yeah, tiny offers are that thing for me. And I totally didn't think I was going to spin it in that direction, but hey, it works. If you want help, we can totally help you. You can be our next success story, right? So look at where you're at in life, in business. What are you focused on not having? And where can you shift into gratitude, shift into abundance? Let the universe provide things creatively. Let it happen. It's already on its way. Like, where can you really trust that belief for yourself, knowing that you already have everything that you need, you already are everything that you need to be to show up, to grow, to keep pressing beyond the resistance. Because, you know, like that quote says, we all have two versions of our life, and resistance is what is in the middle. Resistance is what is keeping us from living, living our best life, from living the unlived life that you could accomplish, that you could become, if you would just trust that it's all working out in your favor and trust yourself to, you know, just push those little nasty thoughts aside of not. Not being enough, not having enough time, not having enough energy. Like, I promise you, you already have all of those things. You are already more than enough. All right. I love all of you. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day and I will see you on the next episode. Thanks for being here for this most recent episode of the Start Tiny Show. I'm eternally grateful that you are all here listening and I am putting it out into the universe that I want to reach more people. I want to help more people. I want to change mindsets and just help people see what is possible for them, what they could achieve. With the combination of belief and smart marketing and just showing up consistently and being the best business owner that you possibly could and growing into what is possible. So if you like this episode, if it resonated with you, if you could relate to the story or to, you know, some of the aha moments that I've had in my life, please share it with a friend, with a bestie on your social media for other people to find. I would be eternally grateful if you would share this episode or any other episodes because it really does help me to be able to reach more people and help more people to change their lives. Because I know that this industry in general is overridden with a lot of negativity and a lot of pro marketing and people that are teaching strategy that don't really get all the pieces and don't maybe don't talk about it the same way that I do. And I've been told enough times like I wish I had found you sooner that this is part of me stepping into my next level is asking you to share this with anyone that you think might benefit from listening to it. And also on that same note, I did mention that we do have call times available. They're just quick 15 minute chats with my team. I promise it'll be fun. If you know anything about me and my business and my culture of my team that I'm building, we have a lot of fun and and these 15 minute implementation calls are just quick chats to see what you're currently doing in your business and if there is an opportunity where we could help you, we'll let you know. And if there's not, we'll help you figure out what would be your next best step.
