Allison Maslan discusses how acquisitions let you scale faster and more predictably than organic growth. She shares her experience buying multiple businesses to expand geographically and capture market share quickly.
You've done 21 acquisitions. Why do you feel acquisition is a great way to scale a business?
The first thing with acquisition is it's the fastest way to get market share. It's the fastest way to get new business more predictable. You can calculate a percentage of the business you're going to get. Usually it's a high percentage, and it depends on the business you're in. We scaled geographically, so we knew we were taking our services national. We found that acquisition worked. Bought my second company six. Six years after my first company. Next thing you know, I'm buying a third and then a fourth. Some business coach said, you're doing a roll up. We just continued that pattern. Once I knew that it was actually a strategy.
